PULLING OUT THE ENGINE VIA THE THROTTLE BODY?

Aloha..

I'm ready to pull my engine and I was told I could run strapping through the throttle body to lift out the engine....looks strong enough to me..

anyone done that?

I don't have the special engine hoist attachment..

Thanks for any input.

Gregg

:argh: Excellent... You see, I've been toying with this idea where I tie dental floss to a suspended bar, rope the strands around my teeth and hang my entire body weight. Almost like this intake idea, so I am not feeling alone anymore..:D

the only thing I will say is please

hire someone, if you have to ask a question like this, you really dont need to be doing it yourself,

thats not a cut down, but friendly advice;)

Why are you shouting? :dontknow:

they do make a special tool # 9363 and it bolts to the heads... looks like this. that is the correct way to pull the motor

I've been told that the factory lifts the cab off...then pulls the engine in design and testing...can anyone verify this? Has anyone done it? I would just like to have a list of the steps...

How do you lift the cab without having a 20+ foot garage ceiling?? :D The
idea of lifting a cab sounds like so much more of a daunting task rather
than pulling the engine. JMHO :marchmellow:

Just heard that the factory does it that way to save time...and I bet they have plenty of head room!

I have 13' 3" floor to the ceiling in my garage.

i've seen shops do it but you have to have a way to lift the cab, so if you have a lift its a great way to do it, infact i'm pretty sure when they assemble the trucks the put the drivetrain in the frame then lower the cab onto it. for a shadetree mechanic you'd have to use an engine hoist but since the upper rad support un-bolts on these trucks its really pretty easy to get out

depends on the tech... with the cummins we lift the cab. when we pulled my motor we just pulled it out. its not that difficult to do... undo the body mounts and all the wiring harness and jack up the cab
