QC Performance upgrades... 500+rwhp goal

Motor is stock. You're right as far as the centrifugal super charger. That's your best route bud. Slap the paxton on and be done with it. You comin' to Panama?

You have the stock trans too, except for a tune and GM 'noid?

No, won't get out of the state of TX this summer. :(

Thanks for the responses guys.

I haven't had the truck to the track yet. It isn't slow, but I'm jaded. Maybe it would run mid-13s in decent air. It doesn't feel as fast as my son's Lightning (which isn't stock... runs high-12s).

Anyway, it does sound like Ronnie's config would be excellent for what I want... I, too, would want a "torque grind", given my driving habits. I don't need to spin the engine to 6500rpm and make power way up there.

Ronnie... I see you have Jesels listed in your mods... I assume these are shaft-mounted rocker arms?

Where is a good distributor for the heads/cam? What about aftermarket rocker arms, pushrods, etc that would be needed?

Would probably need Dusty to build me a tranny.

I also need to find a shop to do the install and competent tune. I'm near Dallas, TX if anyone has any suggestions. I've ripped apart my share of motors but do not have the time at this stage in my life to tackle the project myself.

Those Stryker heads work really well,I drove RottenRonnie's truck and it is a very impressive N/A truck!!:burnout:  ,and like Stinker said Ronnie is a distributor for them and for tranny's I'm using Dusty Hawk's(HTS transmission) tranny parts,clutches,bands,4-2 lever etc.. and its working perfectly!! :burnout:  :burnout:

Glad you chimed in Yellow venom. Your truck is sweet!

So on your trans... are you running an aftermarket converter as well?

Stock converter freshened up when I did the tranny build,I did'nt think I would need to change it due to the ROE on it.The shifts are VERY firm due to the valve body on it also!

I wasn't thinking you would need more stall, but maybe just a better built converter with the power you're pushing through it.

All good info. Thx!!

What would a quality shop tend to charge for a H/C install + tune on one of our trucks?

Also... for you guys who have had local trans shops rebuild your slushboxes, is there anything special about the SRT trans, or is it just a regular 48RE tranny. IOW, I would just be looking for someone who has experience rebuilding the typical Ram Diesel trans using parts I choose, right?

Yes the heads come with a custom shaft-mounted rocker system that has to be used because of the intake valve relocation.
My engine doesn't really have a power band, it just pulls hard from any r.p.m. and keeps going to 6100, where it shifts.

The heads aren't a big deal to change on these engines. The cam takes a while because the engine has to be lifted enough to pull the pan away from the engine; if you don't want to cut the bolted AND welded crossmember, that is.

I might be best to have a tranny built. Our trial-and-error we used on mine likely cost twice what it should have.

But it works now.

Joe, I'm anxious to see your truck all sorted out. That truck should be a missile...

Why not just get one of the ATS transmissions from the atsdiesel.com and be done with it? I dont think we put down even close to what some of them diesels put down....

Ronnie... yeah, you've done the trial and error for the rest of us. I would probably just bit the bullet and get a new trans.

On the H/C swap, what other supporting mods are needed? Lifters? What about fuel system upgrades. I know the BSFC for a N/A motor is less than a FI engine, but with these types of increases in power, can the stock fuel system keep up?

You mention different valvetrain geometry for the Strikers. I've never seen them up close, so are they kind of a canted valve setup? If the valves are relocated, will I have to have my pistons flycut?

No other supporting mods required. Stock lifters are fine. No fuel system upgrades required, stock system can keep up.
No, not a canted valve setup.
No flycutting required either unless you are planning a higher comp. piston and a cam with enough lift that flycutting is needed. That of course applies to any engine.

I have never had my own engine out of the truck. It was really straight forward.

Because of the taller valvetrain components, valve cover spacers or taller valve covers are required, as per the photo. The spacers I used allow for the stock plug-wire looms etc; to be used. So, i.o.w. all the stock components- Intake and exhaust manifolds and the other attaching hardware is still in the same place. One modification IS required- you'll have to relocate the tab on the oil dipstick tube a bit higher to reach the valve cover again...:)

I would be double checking on that,I don't know if a 48RE from a diesel would last on our trucks being the higher RPM it will be running??:dontknow:

Exactly. From every account I've read, it is the rpms our trucks turn that give the tranny trouble. Diesels may make more TQ (especially when modded), but they only turn 3k engine rpm.

Most likely Dusty at HTS would be building mine... although I'm sure ATS makes a really good trans too. Their website is professional enough to get me to inquire about them.
