Questioning legality of red-light cameras

Thank you Sir! When i go to work later i will think of you when i give my "Educational" speech to some (what i call) non-drivers...the ones doing everything BUT paying attention.
Thanks ! I will vicariously enjoy the "ass chewing" some jerk richly deserves. Lets hope they don't hurt someone before you can get to them.
PS. The average cost of the vehicles I insure (because of my driving record), and accident free discounts, is 800/year, yes, that's right full 100/300 with collision, in NY!. 800 per year, per vehicle (I insure 4). (Geico)

I see inattentive drivers every day, especially when I'm on the bike (which is most of the time). I do my best to "educate" the worst of the lot. I find that the whip I keep attached to the bike works quite well, either that or a good boot to a rear view mirror lol.

As far as red light cameras go, I have no problem with them, IF they are clear enough to identify the driver. As stated in the article, I don't believe that it is my job to do that part.

Avoiding the Unsafe Driver with the PORK Maneuver

http://stopthemud.org/2010/03/avoiding-the-unsafe-driver-with-the-pork-manuever/
The acronym for Maryland Unsafe Driver is MUD. We’re encouraged by the old saying, “You’re name is MUD,†when we see the proposed license plate that is part of our suggested Maryland legislation. The idea that a seriously unsafe driver would have to put these federal safety orange plates or placards on his or her vehicle to remind others and themselves that they are convicted unsafe drivers is refreshing. Unsafe drivers are potential road killers and are nothing short of dangerous to the rest of us on Maryland roads.

We can see the MUD tags and be extra careful around those vehicles, but how do we protect ourselves from the road killer’s that have not been to court? (Read about our legislation idea.) We can always drive defensively. A defensive driver is aware of their surroundings, obeys all traffic laws, is courteous, and never displays rage using a vehicle or puts another at risk.

A worried safe driver lets the road killer proceed ahead out of harm’s way. We call this the “PORK Maneuver.†The acronym is short for “Pull Over for the Road Killer.†Pork? Pork comes from, you guessed it. So does that make a MUD a farm animal that enjoys wallowing in MUD? Some might say the farm animal is a lot more considerate, but for our purposes we’ll assume a road killer looks like one.

The PORK Maneuver must be done carefully because some road killers are paying little attention and may not understand what you are doing and why. Before you pull over, be very careful. Plan your move to the side of the road and keep a periodic eye on the road killer. You do not want him following you off the road and colliding with your vehicle. Whenever you can safely do so let the road killer proceed ahead of you. Hopefully, the PORK maneuver will be noticed by the police and they will observe and take action against the the road killer.

In NJ there are several laws that require the registered owner of a vehicle to ID the driver of their vehicle, if they are claiming it was not them, after recieving a ticket in the mail. One of them is passing a stopped school bus. I had a call at work where a parent filming her son boarding the school bus for the first time caught a Nissan minivan blow right by the stopped bus, nearly hitting several other kids. The tape was brought to police HQ where i viewed it, and was able to zoom in on the plate. A summons was issued to the R/O. She denied it was her driving, and told us she was not guilty. I remembered that another parent followed the minivan to a bank ATM machine shortly after the incident, so i requested the video from the bank.:p It clearly showed the woman driving the van, alone, 2 mins after the incident. Long story short, both videos went over well in court, after the woman swore under oath it was not her. She was found guilty, and charged with perjury.:aetsch:

Oh and as a bonus, the ATM video clearly showed her on her cell phone. Being that the violation was within the 30 day limit, the Judge ordered me to write her another summons for that. Opps.;)

Never ever lie to a sworn officer. It is a one way trip to where you just do not want to go.

Had a DEA friend that told a doctor that they knew he was making synthetic cocaine for his brother...the agent at a bar, just told the doctor to stop...the doctor laughed at him and said: "there is no way you can touch me". The doctor spent 14 months in prison.

hehehe, fixed that for you. Of course, with recent opinions from the court you must talk to them, as it is now the law that you notify police of your intent to not answer questions.

One answer that works just fine is "I don't recall". Hell, it worked for Reagan. hehe

Yep, and have some idjut slam on the brakes in front of you ( in order to avoid a ticket) and expect you to stop it time.

Can you say Splat:D :D ;)

Aorund here counties and cities put cameras up but within the past couple of years they have been taking them down -- not sure why. I personally got nabbed by one in Alexandria VA. The picture had a lovely shot of the a$$ end of my old chevy 4x4, plate clear as day and the traffic light showing red. I knew I ran the yellow but didn't figure it turned red that quick. Oh well, my fault and luckily no accident occured. I paid the fine (around $50, no points) and moved on.

I do support camera use, especially around my workplace. Friggin idiots during rush hour run into the intersections trying to beat the light. Then ultimately block the intersection because pedestrians are crossing. Then the idiots try and sneak their car around the people, while they are in the cross walk with the right of way...A taxicab driver tried this stunt several months ago and he ended up with a big 'ol dent in his hood courtesy of a guy's brief case whom he almost ran over. What's sad is the taxi kept going...

Thats great man i would have loved to be in court that day to see the look on her face when the videos showed it was her . Then get the cell phone ticket on top of it . She had to feel like a idiot

People drive like idiots . I have these kids a couple doors down with those civics that fly up and down the street doin like 60 i have 3 kids that play outside in the front yard there are times when i get to the point where i wanna grab them and rip them out of the car and beat there ass .

Well I have to agree, that I like Red Light Cameras. As some know on here, I recently had a near death experience at a red light. If it wasn't for me stalling the car (LOL) I would have been hit by a semi that ran a really red light.

In a perfect world, I would hate them. But so many people nowadays could give a shit less about others, it seems to be needed.

Now what I DO NOT AGREE with is speed detection cameras. These I feel impede to much on daily lives!

You have the bottom line in my opinion.

There is so much that exists because of abuse...we could have highways without speed limits, we could do away with Sarbanes Oxley and we could just allow open or conceal carry...if people were responsible...

Hence the feeling that government is encroaching into our lives too much. If there were not a problem there would not be a need for regulation and enforcement. But alas...there are the crazies, inconsiderate, and just plain stupid ones that create the actions.

Key word Prof ....Responsible!

We could add "accountable" to important words that seem to be missing these days.

What's so compelling to my mind (in this) is the way that people can be so adamant against (what they consider to be intrusive) surveillance in some facets of life and so accepting (of it) in others....

It's a strangely fascinating thing to observe..... Both in others and in myself as well....
