Radar Detectors

My 2 biggest gripes about the V1 is: 1) SIZE! The damn thing is like carrying around Abrams Tank on your dashboard. .... 2) It costs almost as much as a Abrams Tank.

I always thought the V1 was more hype than anything. I mean it's good but like most know, if you're nabbed by laser then that expensive install wasn't worth the money. Slowing down or keeping some other poor sap in front of you while driving is probably your best defense.

The great thing about the V1 is the arrows. It's nice to know what direction to be looking for the man.

Yes pointy arrows ARE helpful..

I have had my escort for years, paid for itself the first month I used it. I did however slowed down. Must be the age.

It could be age.. Which developes maturity.. Which gives us a strong desire to get back home safely to our family in one piece... Which develops more with age.. Which causes you to mature... which makes you want to get back home to your family in one piece.. Which developes with age..

I agree... One caveat I didn't divulge... I haven't had a speeding ticket since I was 17 years old. :)

Is that why 80 year old folks drive 35 mph in the left lane of the highway and refuse to move over? :dontknow:

As stated before, defensive driving is the best way to keep from a ticket.
Don't be the guy in the lead.
Also don't be the guy in the back.
Follow some distance behind someone going the speed you want.
If you see brake lights, it usually means something. Stay alert
Don't weave in and out of traffic.
If it is in the middle of the night and no one is around, don't try to open the truck up to see how fast it will go. Almost always seems to be a officer of the law around the next hill or corner.
Resist the urge to race Mustang Cobras and Chargers in South FL. I have seen FHP with a few unmarked Cobras and Chargers. Also my local city has a yellow Cobra.

Yep, there is 2 silver SRT-8 Chargers and 1 black Mach1 Mustang on the force here. Both unmarked... the two Chargers even have the standard "service" steel wheels. ;)

My bad, I meant Chargers.

Depends , If he has a laser, many keep them off till your in view, when they spot you with it, It's already to late. If they have it on all the time , then you have enough time to slow down.
I've had several and none have ever stopped me 100% from getting a ticket!

80 year olds shouldn't be driving. An elderly lady cut me off just today like it was allowed and never looked over to see if I was okay. But I suppose they want to hold on to their independence as much as they can..

I'm looking at getting a radar detector as well.

Anybody have the 9500ix? What do you think about it??
https://www.escortradar.com/store/passport-9500ix.html

If you live in town (or do a lot of driving in a town) that has lots of stores close to the road, then it's got some good features. The Target, BP Station, and Walgreens stores all set my detector off, because they used radar operated automatic doors. The GPS feature on the 9500 can be set to "remember" these locations and mark them as false alarms.

If you do mostly highway driving and don't mind the occasional annoyance in town, then I would just go for the 8500. :)

Yea my G-Pa is 81 and rarely drives anymore....since I work at his construction firm too, I'm his driver these days.....he'll drive local but I think he realized his abilities are diminishing:dontknow:

Good info.

There's so many of these damn things, and they all claim to be the best out there:dontknow:

Passport 9500ix in my VW.......8500 in my Jeep. Both are amazing units. One just has a few more features. Do the research and make YOUR decision. Good luck.

None of the detectors claim 100%, And you do get a little complacent using one. You still have to have a visual, And learn your detectors alarms. It is just an aid to help from getting caught by radar. Some of the LEOs will still clock you, And of course there is laser. Personally i use the V-1, I like having the ability to see if i am being shot at rear, Side, Or front, And how many boogies i am looking at. JMHO

8500's see the rear.. I am sure 9500's do too.. If you're waiting for a side alarm it's probably too late..
