So who is in the know about radar detectors these days?
Previously I had been using a K40 radar in the truck and a Passport 8500 in the work truck.
With the new car, I am once again looking at radar detectors.
Is the V1 loosing ground these days? Everyone has always had good things to say about it.

According to a few reviews the Passport 9500ix is the top dog now. :dontknow:

I do however like some of the K40 offerings. I would like to have something undetectable like this

All you see is 2 small LED's

I like the fact that it warns about red light cameras. They are popping up like mad around here. I just wonder how often they update there list. :dontknow: Might put a call into them tomorrow and see if the ones around me are on there list yet.

When I was researching mine, most of the reviews had the Passport 8500 and 9500 either equal to or just a hair better than the V1, as far as distance to detection. The nice thing about the V1, is taht it tells you where the cops are. For the price the 8500 is a great deal, as long as you dont need the GPS crap.

I have the 9500ix and it a damn good radar detector. I did however have to turn off the redlight camera thing. If there is a camera on the feeder road intersection and you are driving on the highway it will go off and it just get annoying. Look into getting jammers too.

Totally contrary to most of what I hold to.....but I LOVE the red light cameras !

too many impatient and inconsiderate assholes causing wrecks without them

Had a V1 and loved it.

They have actually proven that they have caused more wrecks with the cameras at intersections than there were before the cameras were installed.
Its not about the safety, its about generating money.

i have the passport 9500ix....its really great....well worth the money...

I love mine. I drive 100 miles to work every day and the CHP hate me. Had 2 just today on my way to work and when it went off he had some one pulled over 5.6 miles down the road from when I picked him up to when I passed him.

Yes they do generate funds:argh::argh: the good thing is around here 2 of the three citys have removed them due to the increase in rear end collisions at controlled intersections.:congrats::congrats::D

Haven't tried a radar detector...............no cops in the garare yet:p:p:marchmellow:

If you are referring to the 9500 series , I believe they are weekly or bi weekly updates for it. But it states what the update is for and what areas it applies to. So not every update is needed. Best thing I have bought for any of my cars was the 9500ix. Now all I get is damn tint tickets...

I usually run mine dark.

Well,as Ron White said,ya cain't fix stupid.;)

Passport 8500 here as well Wes. I love it and it hasn't ever let me down while im using it. When I was doing research before I bought my passport it seemed that the passport 8500 and the valentine Vs were the best around. I wanted the valentine personally but I got a good deal on the passport that I couldn't beat!

The great thing about the V1 is it tells you how many "threats" there are. So when there's a cop hiding around one of those mobile signs PBSO put up that tell your speed, it'll let you know;)
