I usually try to stay out of this stuff but I have to speak up in this case. I am what most people consider an ultra-conservative so this isn't coming from any "left coast, liberal" point of view. It comes from having enough experience and common sense to know when and where to play with our trucks. Whether you went 90 mph or not with your kid in the car, your participation in front of him just put your seal of approval on street racing. And, saying that people have been doing it for a long time is simply a lame argument. "Gee whiz, mom and dad, everyone else is doing it!" See, lame.

If street racing didn't affect anyone else but the participants I'd say have at it. It's a good way to "thin the herd" if you know what I mean. But the truth of the matter is it does affect others. The fact that you may get away with it doesn't mean you haven't needlessly endangered innocent bystanders - without their permission. A 12 year old was recently killed less than a mile from my house while a passenger in the family SUV. They got t-boned by a speeding bullet bike all because someone was trying to prove he could pee farther than the next guy. Yeah, that was really worth it, wasn't it.

Nowwhat is a long time, respected member of this forum who has done as much as anyone in learning how to make these trucks go fast. Instead of throwing a teenage attitude and temper tantrum at him, maybe you ought to listen to him and save it for the track. If it makes someone else think twice about being stupid on the streets and, even worse, involving kids - even as a spectator, then I'm happy to climb up on a soap box and speak up. This country needs more people to have the courage to speak up instead of being cowards and idly sitting by watching. Nowwhat is a class act and has earned even more respect in my book for saying what he did.

It seems like lately this forum is turning into a whose dick is bigger contest.....we all need to calm down and have fun like we use to.

This freedom of speech shit is killin us!! LOL!!!

Would everyone please sit back, take 3 deep breaths, and relax a little. We are all good people here, but lately we are argueing too much. OK I am climbing down off my soap box now.

Bill.

Good idea Bill. Unfortunately there is no shortage of folks on here that like to preach and insult as if they own the higher ground. It gets old...

I've gotten into more trouble on this forum recently than anyone......

As a result, I can't appear to be any bigger an asshole than I do already.....

So I'll make it short and sweet:

Racing on the street is dangerous...........sometimes even deadly. Anyone who disputes that has obviously had an "end of season close out" in the cranial department.

Racing on the street with a youngster in the vehicle (and I don't care if yer only doing 40 or 50 miles and hour) also puts that youngster's life at risk. Anyone who disputes that fact is blinded by his own testosterone count.

Someone get a frikkin' idea, please? Or you may never even see my age....

Can't we all just get along :dontknow:

I hate to say this, but maybe we should keep our street-kill stories for get-togethers (personal stories), as posting them usually leads to arguments between people who like to push their truck and those who are conservative (i think?). I am not arguing for any side, but when I see topics that split the commeradity that this forum has, it makes me sad :(

Tom, this is all about common sense, being responsible and having respect for others. I'm sorry if sticking up for something this important get's old to you. I just can't sit by and let people think that the stuff in this video is worthy of some kind of badge of honor, especially with the stakes as high as they are. Maybe if someone spoke up one more time to the rider on that bullet bike the 12 year old kid he hit would be attending 7th grade this year. Call me preachey or whatever you want, like I said, if even one person thinks twice about doing it then it's worth it, even if it alienates others or, heaven forbid, I get called preachey. I have a thick skin; I can take it.

Ahhh yet another shining example of why it has become better to just read the forums than participate!! All I see here is Mike tryin to look out for someone else's son by talkin about the risks of Street Racing. Sure 90% of us do it but 99.9% of us would certainly think twice about it with a child in the car and thats all the man stated...End of story!!

ok, let me set ya'll straight again. i did not race with him in the truck nor did my truck even participate in a race against another vehicle. the race was taped from my truck by a pasenger from the lightning. i have never raced nor will i race with the boy in the truck. i dont need mike to look out for my son, i look out for my son and thats all he needs.

just to let you guys know maybe they need to shut down the drag strips to. cause about 3 weeks ago a guy was KILLED as he went through the traps. you know maybe people are onto something here as everytime someone has been killed at the track people ban together to try and shut it down. dale sr. was killed to maybe nascar needs to go also. maybe we all need 1.3L 3 cyl. geo metros that would fix everything.

Phil- not really directoed at you. At least you do it without the insults....

If you look at the video its on an on ramp with no cars around. The chase car with the kid doesn't appear to go fast at all. Much ado about nothing if you ask me...

There is no need to pile on at this point - everyone after the first page is doing just that.

Damn C....

I am so sorry things have gotten to a point where you would even think it is better to just read than to post...You are a solid cornerstone of this forum....and your posts are always enjoyed....look how much you just helped with the CF hood thread....

It is all good....everbody has made their point....looks like we agree to disagree and hopefully it all ends now with minimal feather ruffling...(is that a word?)....

Mike, I will agree with this......:tee:

Peace,

Well, I don't post a lot, and not being a dominant voice on this forum, my words may go unnoticed. However, since I have no reason to side with anyone, maybe my point of view will be viewed as neutral.

This poor guy is taking a beating for something that he feels he handled appropriately (telling his kid he wasn't going to race with him in the car); which by the way is a good thing. However some good points have been made, that should make us all think.

First, he did not race...he simply went through a "jack rabbit start" to 80mph or so. This is nothing different than what many of us do when we are getting on to a major interstate. And by the way, 70mph is legal in many states; consequently, many drivers get a way with 80mph.

However, the point of appearing to condone street racing is excellent. You may not be racing, but you are involving your child in the excitement of it all. He sees what his dad get's excited about, and at some point in time, he will want to emulate those actions.

At 38 years old, and a father of two, I have walked away from many situations that could put my family at risk. Admittedly however, I have also engaged in activity that I should have utilized more maturity. The fact is that we all make poor choices at some time or another, and hopefully--whether we feel we did anything wrong, we can recognize the negative consequeces, so that the next time, we are able to use better judgement. This is no different than anything else in life, there are many things that we can look back and say "I really shouldn't have done that". Life is a learning experience....just make sure that what you are doing doesn't put your life--or anyone else's for that matter, in jeopardy.

I loved your video, and do commend you on "holding back" with your son in the car. But I guess I do understand some of the other's concerns, even though I feel your intentions were good.

None of us like to be told that we are doing something wrong, especially when it comes to our kids. I know I don't. However, as men, we have this thing called pride that sometimes prevents us from looking at things from a clear perspective. I know that sometimes, regardless of how right I think I am, I need an opportunity to sit back and "digest" things, and hopefully become smarter afterwards.

Ron
