Just wandering if anyone else here rides and more specifically if anyone has completed an iron butt ride. I rode 1080 miles last summer in about 16 hours. I left Central WV at 5 am, headed west, ate lunch in Illinois, and returned home about 9:20pm that same day. I guess it sounds pointless but it was actually fun as hell.
I'll add a pic of my bike. It is a 2007 Suzuki M109R Boulevard with 19,400 miles on the odometer as of now. Bike has had 0 problems to date.

max mileage for me was 500 miles in one day , and my ass & back hurt for a couple days afterwards .

That was on my Harley .
 
Back in 1977, I rode from San Fransico to Portland in one day on a Harley Sportster.

My ass was f*cking numb by the time I got home.:eek:
 
A buddy and I rode from Boca Raton, FL to Key West and back in one day. A little over 400 miles. I was riding a '79 Honda CBX at the time. Grueling would be a good way to describe it. More recently I've done some benefit rides which went about three hours with a stop or two along the way on my Buell Ulysses. Not an iron butt. Opposite end of that spectrum whatever that may be.
 
I have a guy I work with that did one. Was South FL all the way to North FL and back down.
I will have to check tuesday and see what the route was. Thats alot more than what I would do in a day.
 
I've done many saddlesores, bunburners and even a couple SS2000 and SS3000. Won the BMW riding challenge in I think it was 1998...about 58K miles in 6 months. Rack over 100K on 4 bikes now. Don't do much LD riding the last 3-4yrs as I'm back roadracing and offroad racing.

Never tried to get into IBR but have many friends who have competed. Its a whole nother kind of person who can do that. Most do 10-14K miles in 10 days.

Never did anything official with IBA. Never wanted to compete in the IBR so I never felt the need to send in documentation to earn enough points to apply for IBR. I did compete in a couple rally's like the Utah 1088 but realized that type of riding wasn't for me. I can't ride late at nite while trying to gather bonus locations. The SS3000 was miserable for me. I was on a K12LT and if not for the fact others were counting on me arriving at the destination I'd have long given up on it. I tried a 50CC but died outside of New Orleans. Laid down on a park bench at a rest stop and next thing I knew it was some 7hrs later. Like I said...those who can string consistent 1000 mile days day after day are another breed of human.

Don't know if you were aware but this years IBR just finished yesterday morning. You can read about it here.... IronButt 2009 Brian Roberts is a good friend who I introduced to LD riding back in 2000. We went from SF to Horseshoe bend ID for lunch for his first LD ride. He can run circles around me now. He finished 47th. During the 2007 IBR he got taken out by a deer in upper Idaho. Neither his Vstrom nor the deer made it.

Done plenty of 800 mile days and quite a few 1000 mile days over the years. Sturgis is a 2 day trip from here, and we're gonna be doing New Orleans in 2 days (I think it's right around 1900 miles). Then we're gonna hang out for a day and a half and head back hehe. Just going for a party.

Got a friend that has won his Club's endurance race the last few years. They run from Minn to Florida, and it is a serious race. The only stops are for gas and he averages some crazy speeds. Oh, did I mention that he's been doing it on a hardtail? heheheh

What size Vstrom was he riding? I have heard they were good long distance bikes. Also, have any experience with the new Kawasaki Concours 14?

He was on the 1000. He liked the bike and while he managed to get it back on the road it was never the same. He went with the ST1300 earlier this year. Too boring a bike for me. As for Concours14...did you see my sig? GTR1400 IS the Concours14. :D

I had my second Aprilia Futura and also an 04 FJR1300 but was ready for something else. I was seriously looking at the K12GT but BMWNA still left a sour taste in my mouth. I was close to buying one anyways as my local dealer kept reassuring me he'd take care of me regardless. Thats when the 14 was announced so I put a deposit down and waited. Couple delays but finally got it. Put a quick 10K miles on it but as I said before haven't been doing much LD riding or much street riding lately. Are you considering one?
 
Rode from Fort Worth,TX to here (Stanley,VA) in about 18 hours.Mileage was 1360 ,I think.Avg speed was 75-80.Did it on an 89 Softail HD.

Never do that again
 
did about 450 miles one day with the wife on back on my vtx1800 in n.c.
on the blue ridge parkway.what a great place to ride!! pretty nasty coming back over black mountain @ midnight in the rain.about 40 degrees.!!

He's probably been doing it so long, he's got no tail bone left to hurt.... it's been ground clean off years ago. :eek: :D And his lower lumbar is probably fused together too.... could probably sleep on his Hog and not even fall over. Just stuck in his riding position. :D :rock:
 
i drove my custom midnight warrior from houston to liberal kansas...bout 700 miles in one day...was a tough ride...and back a few days later in one day
 
most i've done in one day was with my GF, went down to corpus christi and back in one day about 560miles. on my 07 sportster
