I have an 07 Honda Rancher 420 (2wd fuel injected) and, bought new last may (demo). A retired couple i just purchased a trailer from has a Yamaha Raptor 660 they have bought from the bank to keep the grandson out of trouble (paid $4K to the bank). They have offered to trade me ATV's so they could have one they would actually be able to safely use.

What do you guys think?? Pros and cons?

The Raptor is blue and not sure of the year, looks great though...thanks in advance for any feedback:rock:

i had the older rancher, it was slow, and i guess safe you can see it here.

that 660 is super fast, bad off road thou, more of a fire road bike. cant really do technical stuff with it. but the honda is also 2wd so i dont know. but yeah the rancher is safer.

The Rancher will last forever, the Raptor depending on year is known to have engine/transmission issues. The biggest troubles were in the 01/02 Raptors.

I love my rancher, have alot of fun with it, i know the raptors sell fro alot more, id have to see what year it is...

The raptor is a bad bitch...also a heavy pig! I used to have a Suzuki 400Z and that thing moved, but my buddies raptor would go flying by me on a straight away, but when we took it off road I had a little more of an edge because it's not as heavy as the raptor

I had a z400 and could easily outrun the raptor everywhere except open road. I could easily leave him on the trail.

Ive never had a sport style atv, never even drove one :dontknow:

Would you guys say their more fun than a utililty atv??

I have had a Honda 300EX, a Honda 400EX, and a Raptor 660R. All of them I modded for more performance. The 660R was the fastest, but the 400EX was the most fun.

If I was to do it all over again, I would get a 400EX and give it a hi flow exhaust, a bigger cam, open up the airbox with a hi flow filter, step the carb needle, and jet it up to match the intake and exhaust flow. Then you would have the best of both worlds. IMO

Yep those suzuki's were bad mofo's....If I recall mine was in the high 80's on GPS

The street style are much more fun I think....I took it in all the mud and swamps that my boy took his 4 wheel drive into...
Depends on what you want to use it for...
Mine saw a lot of street and sand, with the occasional mud...they're so fast it's like they fly over an open mud area!

Hard decision, though the wife wants me to keep the rancher, says she wont feel safe riding with me on the Raptor (hehe) shes a smart girl

I'd keep the Rancher, the 660 is not much fun. If you get a sport bike, go with a z400 or a 450 racer. The z has reverse so it is much better in the woods.

The 400ex is closest to the z in handling but not close in power. The z is like an updated 400ex IMO.

+1 for that reverse...
It saved my ass quite a few times:rock:

I've just been told on the older ones, they have two carbs. That are a pain to keep clean running and in sync!

i have had two, low performance and high. both utility. the main diff between utility and (racer) is handling, if i take a hard sharp corner the thing wants to roll, the cornering on the sport quad is flat and sharp.

I had 2 400EXs with the mods you stated minus the bigger cam. I rode the Glamis Dunes for several years. Very good performance, And handled great.

The Raptor has reverse (so ive read)...:dontknow:

The 02' Raptor isn't worth 4000$. I HATE honda's so i don't know what yours is worth.

The Rancher is useless as a utility, due to no 4x4, fun wise. As a trail and yard work i'm sure it's perfect. My buddies 420 is 4x4 and I'll take my old Polais 250, or my other buddies grizzly 350 over the honda ANY DAY.

The Rapdaddy, has dual carbs, and has reverse. It's a switch on the right front fender. It's a wonderful and fun bike. Put some gears on it and bigger more aggressive tires and you can tear up the mud too.

What do you have in the Honda?

660 is a much better all around bike than a 400 anything, it's bigger and more comfortable, more powerful helps also............ IMO ;)

My babies :)
