Question on getting the rear brake rotors off. I changed out my front rotors and went to do the rears and could not get them off.

I removed the push on retaining clips and then tried getting the rotor off and it wouldn't budge (caliper is removed of course)

I am guessing the shoes in the parking brake is what was holding the rotor on. Anyone else have this kind of problem changing the rear rotors.

I tried banging it with a hammer to see if I could knock it loose but to no avail. I thought of heating it but did not want to get crazy in case there was something I was missing. The service manual does not make mention of having to do anything tricky to get the rear rotors off.

It is not a big deal because the pads and rotors are ok right now but I would like to know how to properly remove them for future reference.

If anybody minds sharing some tips I would appreciate it.

I hit them with a heavy duty metal pole from the back mine wouldent come off either that popped them right off

yea i used a brass hammer ,after removing the little clips on the studs, to beat the axle into the diff. that broke the rotors free from the axle. don't use a steel hammer or the hits will mushroom the axle and the rotors will be a real biotch to remove!

Thanks guys. I like backing the pad off idea and then just walk them back when the new rotor is on. Do they adjust like regular drum brakes?

Jrangel. Did some more hunting around and you are indeed correct. Backing of the pads using the adjuster is the way to do it.

I wish I thought of that when I had the damn thing apart. Oh well, no biggie. The front ones are changed and they were shot. The back ones were no where near ready to be replaced. Just wanted to swap them alll out since I went with the zechausen pads on the front. Still have the stock pads on the rear and they are not that bad on dust.

If anybody questions the stopping power on those Zechausen pads, don't. Bedded those bad boys in, even though they say you don't need to. Yeah, they stop just fine.
