Rear end gears

Its 505 cubic inches. 1000 rpms is more power than most civics at 6000 rpm. Shift where is comfortable for u. Just dont worry its gonna blow. She'll be just fine.

Haha you make a really good point. Yea normally when im driving around town I cruise at no more than 60 and leave it in 5th gear turning around 1700ish rpm. I guess it does worry me about running it at only 1000 rpm and maybe thats why I have never done it.

6th gear, check engine light is on because the ecm is looking for some emission equipment that isn't there anymore.:chain:

Yea that looks exactly where mine would be as well. Like I said, just seems low but I guess its normal with these trucks

6th gear at 35mph!!!! You are crazy.

My thoughts exactly!

We've argued this before and I agree the guys purposefully shifting early is nuts. No way should you even be in 5th at 35 with 4.10s. My 4.56 rear is barely happy there. No it may not BLOW the engine but bearings hate you for it! Read your owners manual on shift speeds. It's damn close! Sorry, but riding around in 6th lugging the engine is not right. If it were meant to be like that we'd only get 3 speeds. 1, 3 and 6, hahaha. Nucking futs I tell ya!

Here's my video on the subject ;)

This conversation makes me happy.

Man if I put my truck in 6th gear at 45 mph the thing would be likely to cut off due to not enough rpm on the engine to stay running. At 60mph in 5th im turning 1600-1700 rpm and if I shift to 6th at 60mph its drops to right at 1000 rpm. So basically around town my 6th gear doesn't even get used at all.

With the 4.56's in my '04 now I can drag my bass boat down the road. 6th works really fine @55mph and above.

For me 4.10's just way too tall for the stock dia tires. With the 4.56's and the proper carrier the rear end is totally quiet, quietest 4.56's I've *never* heard and pulling the boat is a dream. Pulling it out of the lake, just let out the clutch like normal and drive, no slipping, no spinning the tires, no drama.

I swapped my 4:10's for 4:56's this past spring and I couldn't be happier. It's more fun to drive around town and I didn't lose any of it's 6th gear highway cruising ability.

The 4:10's always felt like they were holding the engine back. I completely get why they changed to 4:56's after 2004.

So im taking a guess and saying I suppose there isnt anyone on here with some 4.88 gears for sale is there?
