Rebuild Update

Soooo... Found main bearing 3 & 4 scard pretty bad and broke small piece of the oil pan trying to take it off ( they had used black gasket maker) pistons are in good conditon as well as cylinder walls. Just droped of the crank at the shop and he said that it looked cosmitic and all it would probably need is a good buff n polish.

lol they got ripped while picking up the crank. Unfortunately due to my budget and time frame, its going back to stock internals ...But rest a sure that by the second time i need to tare it out i will have the money to go forged!

I do need a new timing chain though....I wonder if they make a gear drive hmmm..probably cost an arm and leg.

For the difference (3K) I would park mine for bit and save the extra bucks. Will be worth more when you sell it and will be able to do a lot more with confidence with the forge. 2 cents worth.

In fact that kinda reminds me of the guys back when that would put in a new clutch and skimp on a new throw out bearing. Kinda like removing your cataracts and not doing the Lasix for better vision. Just saying.

On my engine job it was about $2,500 extra to forge The bottom end. $$$ well spent!

In fact that kinda reminds me of the guys back when that would put in a new clutch and skimp on a new throw out bearing. Kinda like removing your cataracts and not doing the Lasix for better vision. Just saying.

When I bought my 1987 Shelby GLHS the clutch chartered pulling out and slipped under boost. When I started pulling the trans I could tell somebody else was inside. Found some ass put in a brand NEW clutch disc & nothing Else! Man was I pissed. Never seen a pressure plate and flywheel look that heat damaged!

Unless you're planning on boost or a ton of spray save your money and skip the forged internals. There is a stock head gasket for the 08-10 viper i think that is thinner and will give you a lil bump in compression. Never seen a clutch kit for $350 though? Is that what stock ones run?
