I am in the middle of reading the Bible...cover to cover...and I agree the Old Testament is somewhat "lengthy".
It is interesting to note...that of all the people that have reigned...and fallen in history...
The Israelites still live today.

Adam was created sometime after the 7th Day ( some call it the 8th day, but it is not stated)

Chapter 1 says he already made man & woman........but as chapter 2 progresses woman is again made..

Nice thought, but haven't we seen what happens when nations use a holy book as law?

That is why our founding fathers created The Seperation of Church and State ( no State/ Government run churches.) and that is what is screwed up, (thier interpretation of something so simple) That very idea has been perverted by the Government( Supreme Court Rulings) so you can not even have the 10 comandments displayed on public property, when in fact the founders did and also prayed before any meetings.

Been to court latley?? I have several times, and there was no Bible.
Just an oath, Please raise your right hand, "Do you swear to tell the whole the truth and nothing but the truth".
No mention of God and No bible.

I live in NC (Bible belt). I've been a juror a time or two and I think they still said the whole oath.
As of this article they still used religious text to swear in witnesses.

I did know why we use the bible but have forgotten..... ....while I dont believe in the literacy of the bible I do believe in tradition....I hope we continue to use the bible...the courts here still do..

I think the Key word is "can".

RALEIGH, N.C. — Witnesses and jurors being sworn in at state courthouses can take their oath using any religious text, not just the Bible, a judge ruled Thursday.

Judge Paul Ridgeway said both common law and state Supreme Court precedent allow witnesses and jurors to use the text "most sacred and obligatory upon their conscience."

The ruling came after the American Civil Liberties Union argued that limiting that text to the Bible was unconstitutional because it favored Christianity over other religions.

The issue surfaced when Muslims tried to donate copies of the Quran to Guilford County's two courthouses. Two judges declined to accept the texts, saying that taking an oath on the Quran was illegal under state law.

I don't know if you can decline to swear in without religious text or not. I read the article differently then your interpretation. I understand it to mean you can use a Bible, you can use a Quran or you can use another Holy book of your faith. There may be an option for "none of the above" but I've never heard of it.

You'll be tared and feathered if your lucky. There are churches out the wazoo in the bible belt. Which just goes to show the many different interpretations of the same book. If everyone believed the Bible the same way, wouldn't they all belong to the same church? Distance logistics not being considered.

Great post! And to think people laughed at him and thought he was crazy lol. I believe in God and am proud of it. However, I don't go to church and sing songs about it or ride bikes around or shove religion down peoples throats to convince myself or others that he is real. I drink heavily, swear, smoke, have done all kinds of drugs (in the past) and am not perfect but me and God have an understanding and he knows I'm good at heart. I will never judge anyone else for what they believe in, if anything at all, that is their right and I respect that.
