And my point you said ribs are transalated to curves in Greek....The quotes were from Hebrew transulations...........so according to your answer I will transalate as:

In most court there is the option to swear "or affirm" with or without the use of a reference to God.

There have been very few people capable of reading in ancient times, most people got the teachings of the bible via oral interpretation of various types of "clergy" and therein lies much of the problem.

Going way back to one of my original posts asking "Who's God?" because the God referred to was often a creation of the person presenting the concepts...and the same goes on today...human interpretations stuffed with ulterior motives.

I was going to comment on that this morning. My wife and I were discussing this thread last night and I mentioned the Atheist part. She reminded me of the Affirmation instead of the swearing to God. :rock:

look into lilith, she was created before eve. she is also explained in the telmud kinda of a bibliography of the old testament written by rabbis to explain questions such as yours. Also this is where the gnostic movement comes in.
 
I would have to say when I originally saw this thread I was under impressed with the topic, and to tell you the truth with all the posts I have read I have confirmed that this thread is shaking your head disappointing....

Was the intent of this thread to state that science has a disdain for all faiths?? Or do people of faith completely ignore all facts that science is able to uncover?? I for one say no... Quoting Einstein is always a good thing, but he had his views on non-general relativity that are just as credible as any store clerk...

While I do think the bible is full of flaws, and things that I just plain think were fabrications from people with ulterior motives...it is certainly a great work. You don't have to believe every detail, some of it is meant to be literal some is figurative.

I am not a Christian but I doubt that many would disagree that it has many lessons well worth considering.

Not everything needs to be flawless to be worthwhile.
 
I am a christian, I believe with all my faith, not because of others but because I made the journey for myself. One thing I do know is faith was givin to us By our Creator. religion was created by man to try and understand Faith.
But just Like everything if it falls into the wrong hands people use it to take control over others. If you cut out all the man made hysteria and added words of the Lord by mankind. Yeshua's basic message is there is more to our lives than just this world, and what you do while your here will determine on what happens after this life.Just as science tells us there are more dimensions to reality so did My Lord.JMO

I think people are trying to hold Einstein up as a scientist that had all the answers for religion and science which is seriously wrong. Einstein had views of what "god" is and let's please let him have his views.... He was just a person that was brilliant in what he did for science. A god is something that should be very personal to us all.

Those that want god to be a god that judges us for the things we do in this life should be able to do that. Those people that view god as an intelligence that set our universe in motion and gave it laws should be able to have that view too.

God is something very personal, and those that find "god" in any form should considered themselves blessed. Read the bible if you want, read string theory and enjoy the mathematical theory that "god" put in motion. It's all the same.
