Religion VS Science

This is quite an over-simplified explanation,but all I have the energy to type tonight. Easiest way to say it is : You have to believe you HAVE RECEIVED what you pray for BEFORE you ever see it,or you will never see it .That is FAITH. (Hebrews 11:1) Now faith is the substance of things hoped,the evidence of things not yet seen.

Faith comes from understanding,and understanding comes from GOD's Word.

After life is a concept beyond our frame of reference. Belief in something beyond our human existence is difficult. I find it to be one of the things that I certainly do not try to comprehend in our normal frame of reference...or literally...it helps me to think in figurative terms...my religion speaks of an afterlife as a "nearness to God", and that is figurative not literal. The other thing that makes an afterlife manageable in my mind is the concept that there is no such thing in my personal spiritual philosophy as eternal damnation...without the fear of "punishment in an afterlife" it is much easier for me to accept the concept.

Why worry about the afterlife.;) If you are doing what you are supposed to be doing.Love life. Love people. Love your family. Love your God. What exactly is wrong with that?

I know!!!...A persons conception of what they interpret from their religion. My Dad alway said that church is not meant to be contained by brick walls, but is meant to be a communion with your fellow man. (He is a Roman Catholic)

Who cares about the afterlife! If you honor what is righteous, you should have no fear. However, that is just an opinion of religion. I have experienced Catholicism and being Mormon...and one thing they both have in common, neither actually had the answer to sitting at the right hand of the father.

No matter what you do, God has the final say on who will sit next to him at the dinner table. And there is only two seats....one at the left and one at the right and I guarantee you one of those seats are already taken.;)

Considering my profession...what makes you think that I am not closer to my God than the average 30 year old....;)
 
BTW....science says it is safer to fly than it is to drive. But science has yet to prove there is a God. (Doesn't mean that I don't believe in Him....just throwing that out there for y'all.:))

WRONG........ wrong and wrong.... I'm not sure if this is a knee jerk response or not. :dontknow:

Religion is based on something that is completely unscientific and is certainly agenda driven...... I prefer to follow a spiritual path and not a religious one... Religion can be downright scary.

However this does not disqualify my statement about certain aspects of the scientific community..... Some scientists are truly and purely that.... They believe in the sanctity of reseach and the factuality of data....

But sadly, some are looking for a predetermined outcome to further their funding or their agenda....

Rupert Sheldrake hypothesized that a scientist's attitude toward their experiments could effect the outcome of those experiments. Therefore, any inclination toward a specific outcome could be loosely interpreted as an "agenda".

On agendas of a much broader scale, I find that much more often it is religion seeking to disprove science than the other way around.;)

Besides, if you know my attitude about this argument, you already know that I believe religion and magic are simply filler in the gaps of proven science.

God works individually (like this) in each facet of our characters until we finally grow up and get over ourselves.

Life is hard...... It was meant to be that way..... If it was easy we wouldn't learn or change a thing in or about our messed up selves..... Humans have tremendous potential. But we will never realize our true potential without being tried and tested on a regular basis..... and there's no way out of it that I've found.... even after searching desperately for almost 60 years....

There's no way to "hot wire" your prayers. God isn't our personal short order cook... and some prayers are not answered with a yes. There is only "Thy will be done" ...and that (my friend) is the facts (according to Django) about prayer......

In no way do I mean to say that God is our personal Genie to perform for us whatever we want.In order to pray a faith-filled prayer,you must first of all have something to base it on : a particular scripture in God's Word .In plain English ,you must first find a scripture that promises you something,then you pray according to that scripture and you believe that you receive it.It is as simple as that.You can ridicule it and call it whatever you want (and it is quite obvious that you hold your own opinion in higher regard than the Bible),but if GOD said it in the Bible,it will work just the way HE said it would work.

And it does definitely work just like that.I have been doing it just like that for years.

I can not fully explain all the types of prayer,rules of prayer,etc here.There are many,many books available on this subject.The problem comes from people not being taught the different types and the different rules governing each type.That is why we admonished to "Study to show thyself approved...rightly dividing the Word of truth." ;)

God did not create evil.He created Lucifer.Lucifer rebelled against God and Heaven .he became the "devil" ,"satan","deceiver" by his act of rebellion.

God does allow evil,BUT God DID NOT create evil.

I love ya' my friend...... But while you were looking up 2nd Timothy 2:15 Being a workman that need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.... (which I did not have to look up to quote) You should have checked the OT (old testament) .... Isaiah 45:7 "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things."

Take it or leave it, that's what the book says.....

So, how did "Religion vs. Science" end up being a discussion of text from one particular religion?

Did you guys get tired of having that discussion already, or did you just allow Tim to come along and start leading you around by your hairy little testaments?:p

No way you guys could have a meaningful discussion of the thread topic if you're getting sucked into circular arguments supported only by "The Bible".

Religion is an interpretation of whomever is reading the Bible at the time...I don't think that shit is dope.
 
Jerry, you really need to think about that statement...seriously...I would suggest that it might be true in the minds of Christians for Christians...and that covers about 30 % of humanity...what about the other children of God?

And yes, religion and science can go hand in hand...but not if the desire on the part of either is to control rather than understand.

So far it's been proven to me time and time again that God does not ignore my prayers. When things seem to be unbearable or grim, it is He I turn to for guidance and strength. And no matter where I am I feel his presence and receive his warmth. To me this is amazing and definitely worth mentioning because I am such a firm believer in science yet He doesn't forsake me. This causes me to embrace Him more. Balancing the two (science and religion) is difficult I think because I am a mere mortal limited to human understanding and senses.
