Rest in peace-David Carradine:

The earlier stories said rope was wrapped around his neck and genitals.. later it was changed to neck and other parts of his body. Strange stuff!

I'm now beginning to hear more info regarding this situation. The rumor is that Carradine did indeed have cancer and had been dispondant about issues surrounding his disease. Chemo and radiation can be very hard on someone his age and he may have been facing a long and painful struggle with it.... I do not know any of this for sure. It just came up on a radio talk show today. (Hugh Hewitt)..... Lynette relayed the info to me....

All told, this is still a tragic situation..... as much as it would be in the life of any other human being.

RIP

There will (apparently) be an autopsy..... in Thailand.....

What a joke.....

I have $50 sez they come back with the startling revelation that he died of asphyxia.........(duh)

This would make sense to me. Doesnt want to die a horrible cancer death, so he takes himself out on his terms.

DC was just one of the "cool" type of guys. He carried his Kung Fu charactor forever. He was iconic IMO.

RIP and God bless his family.

I was shocked while reading about this yesterday. Hanging himself? In Bangkok of all places? The only thing that would make me believe it was a suicide is that he knew he was going to suffer a terrible sickness and would rather leave on his own terms. Other than that I am waiting for more news about the events that lead to this. I hope the investigation won't be blundering.

David is indeed iconic and, while growing up, I really enjoyed watching him in his shows and movies whether he was a hero or a villian. Lone Wolf McQuaid is one of my all time favorites. Even though Chuck Norris takes him down in the end, it was a good fight. Perhaps in his 70's he just didn't want to fight anymore. But this is a tragic end, nonetheless, for a great Kung Fu star and symbol. May he rest in peace.

While in the service (Ft. Bragg) we had a stand down for a day to have in-service training about strangulation during masturbation. We had two deaths in the space of a week.

Apparently an orgasm is enhanced by a ligature around the neck which impedes blood flow to the brain and prolongs the duration of the orgasm. The practice is to release the pressure just before passing out, from restricted blood flow.

Both of the men who died doing this at Ft. Bragg had tied the tag end of the ligature to a solid object and were leaning away from the knot...but did not release the pressure in time to avoid loss of consciousness, and died.

I do not know if this is the situation with David...but it might explain the rumors about the situation.

UPDATE:

By MICHAEL CASEY, Associated Press Writer Michael Casey, Associated Press Writer – 1 hr 13 mins ago
BANGKOK – Police are speculating that accidental suffocation, not suicide, may have caused the death of American cult actor David Carradine, whose body was found in a hotel closet in the Thai capital with a rope tied to his neck, wrist and genitals.

Celebrity blogs and social networking Web sites were abuzz with news of the death of Carradine — best known for the 1970s TV series "Kung Fu." The circumstances under which he died have led to speculation that the 72-year-old actor may have been engaged in a dangerous form of sex play known as auto-erotic asphyxiation.

The practice involves temporarily cutting off the supply of oxygen to the brain to heighten the effects of a sexual climax.

Carradine's body was discovered Thursday morning in his luxury suite by a chambermaid at Bangkok's Swissotel Nai Lert Park Hotel, said its general manager, Aurelio Giraudo. Police embassy representatives while preparations were being made for its repatriation to the United States, expected to be in the next few days. Under U.S. privacy laws, the embassy is not allowed to release further details without permission of the family of the deceased.

Dr. Nanthana Sirisap, director of Chulalongkorn Hospital's Autopsy Center, told reporters that the autopsy was conducted because of the "unusual circumstances surrounding Carradine's death," but did not elaborate.

Police Lt. Teerapop Luanseng had said Thursday that Carradine's body was found "naked, hanging in a closet," and police at that time suspected suicide. However, no suicide note has been found.

Carradine's friends and associates insisted he would not kill himself.

"All we can say is, we know David would never have committed suicide," said Tiffany Smith of Binder & Associates, his management company. "We're just waiting for them to finish the investigation and find out what really happened. He really appreciated everything life has to give ... and that's not something David would ever do to himself."

Pornthip Rojanasunand, director of Thailand's Central Institute of Forensic Science, said the circumstances suggested that Carradine may have died performing auto-erotic asphyxiation, which is said to result in a form of giddiness and euphoria — similar to alcohol or drug intoxication — that enhances the sexual experience.

"In some cases it can suggest murder, too. But sometimes when the victim is naked and in bondage, it can suggest that the victim is doing it to himself," said Pornthip, who is considered the country's top criminal forensics expert but who did not take part in the autopsy. "If you hang yourself by the neck, you don't need so much pressure to kill yourself. Those who get highly sexually aroused tend to forget this fact."

Carradine had flown to Thailand last week and began work on a film titled "Stretch" two days before his death, Smith said. He had several other projects lined up after the action film, which was being directed by Charles de Meaux.

Carradine was in good spirits when he left the U.S. for Thailand on May 29 to work on "Stretch," his manager Smith said by phone from Beverly Hills.

I just heard his hands were tied and it might have been murder. In a strange way I hope it was. Kind of taints a life when it's suicide and he lived a pretty good life on screen.

:hmmmm:No signs of a struggle and no bruising of his body. Hands and pebbles tied with rope around the neck? :stupido2:perhaps someone was there with him playing a role in this possibly consensual act that went too far. :dontknow: Perhaps after he expired that person quietly tip-toed the hell out of the room before locking the door behind him/her. Whatever the events that led to this unfortunate result, it's really an eccentric circumstance to find such a respected icon in.:(

Looks like the FBI is in this now....... They're saying it may have been murder.....:

LOS ANGELES – The family of David Carradine is asking the FBI and a private forensics expert to help investigate the "Kung Fu" actor's death, attorney Mark Geragos said Saturday, the same day Thai police said surveillance footage indicated no one had entered his hotel room before he died.

Carradine's brother Keith met Friday with the FBI and filed reports that could lead to the agency opening its own inquiry, said Geragos, who represents Keith Carradine. The family will also seek a private autopsy by famed forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden to determine whether another person could have been involved, Geragos said.

The actor's family hopes the body will arrive in Los Angeles by Monday, Geragos said, but he did not give specifics.
