My mustang has been sitting for the past 6 months and I haven't started it nor has anyone else due to me being away from home and it leaking gas from the fuel tank sending unit. So for fear of the worst and the safety of others I let it sit.
My question is: can I simply get in and turn the key OR do I need to prime the oil pump such as when you first build a fresh motor?
The motor is a 347 stroker motor with forged rotating assembly, hydraulic cam and lifters, synthetic oil (Ken something brand, can't remember) if that makes any difference.
And because I know we all like pics :D ...

Thanks in advance.

I've never done this before so how would I go about doing it?
Not sure on a Ford, on a Chevy you just pull the distributor and buy a drill attachment at the local parts store to turn the oil pump drive.

what year mustang? my friend has a 66 coupe that he hasn't touched in over 3 years. we started getting her road worthy few months ago and took her to the track which it ran a 12.2 1/4mi on 100shot.

65 coupe, still finishing up some small things here and there. Still breaking everything in so haven't had a chance to see what she can do on the track but she breaks the tires loose in every gear.

I think that may be the same for fords as well but I'm not positive, will have to look into it

In the Navy, I'd leave my rig for 6mo at a time. Jump it off, let it sit and warm up and GLH Go Like Hell!

You gots a oil pressure gauge, just monitor it. No worries mate!

Thanks, yeah that's Pat's, the shop where I had my car was 5 min from there. The pics don't do it justice though!

Thanks for the offer ArrestmeRed04, how long should I prime it?
