Hey all

I got into my truck last night and putting the truck into reverse was HARD!

Like the shifter did not want to go over the far right AT ALL!

I had to muscle it into the shiftgate and once it was all the way over, it went right into gear.

Does into all other gears no problem.

What could be causing this? When I swapped in the T56 I already removed that spring from the solenoid. Ive got fresh tranny fluid in the truck and it just feels weird that the shifter is giving me issues.

Any ideas? I don't want to break anything by wrenching the shifter over to get into reverse.

Mine does same as yours some times it holds in sometimes I have to hold it in tell it bangs hard in.

No it goes into reverse just fine. The shifter UP and Down movement isn't the issue. Its moving the shifter to the far right into the Reverse gate that is the issue.

Can you check to see if the lock out selonoid is working? Would think that could cause your problem. Check the wiring if you just put it in.

He said he removed spring from it but if plunger is still there it could be jammed in the way or something.

I'm gonna try removing the shifter entirely make sure everything is good. Then I'll remove that solenoid housing and fiddle with it.

Hope it works.

Was not sure exactly how that selonoid worked. Is it a good idea to disable it?

It prevents you from going into reverse while shifting forward gears. Some can't find 5th and end up grinding reverse, lol.
Removing it makes entering the reverse gate easier.

Once I rebuild my tranny and do motor swap I will be installing a 05 rc harness in my truck so it works properly

Pssh... They're not worth the time bro. They often go out due to the heat they're subjected to, once again making reverse hard to enter. You manually have to fight the plunger/spring tension then with the minimal leverage of a short stick/short shifter. Every T56 I've owned had issues with Reverse Lockout going bad. My Vettes is currently disabled exactly how the truck was done.

Going to the far right has never been an issue. The shifter works perfectly. It feels like there is something in the way of the shifter going to the right that's all.

I gotta take it apart and see whats what.

Reverse lockout is simpler and faster to remove than shifter ;)
I'd try it first if it were me
