Rods for Diamond pistons

Proline, just above Atlanta, builds engines for Underground and is who built mine. I had them price out different levels of build and really the difference is only a couple grand between a good build and a really good build. It's expensive to pull these engines and have them rebuilt, deffinately do it right the first time around!

I went with CP pistons, Oliver rods, ground crank to chevy specs, billet mains and caps, cam, headwork, and crower roller rockers. Out the door a hair over $14,000. This will take more than the 1000+ a little that I will throw at it. That said, the hp to clear 1000 is coming from nitrous so the motor will be tuned a bit conservative for everyday to extend its life.

Basically the same build but w/o billet mains, not grinding the crank, and lesser rods was still around 11 grand + engine out and back in anyway. If you truely plan to hit 1000hp you need a full build. Instead of installing nitrous right away put that $$ into your motor, you'll thank yourself later.

And maybe I should restate one thing, most engine builders may take offense to what I said aobut 1000hp engines not living the life.
but I have seen many pics fo bearings from 1000hp engines and all had severe bearing wear, its jsut the nature of the beast, it may still run, but jsut plan on having the bearings checked at certain points

The type of bearing, bearing size, clearances, oil type, engine RPM and journal size all come into play here. Without knowing any of this, there is PLENTY of blame that can be thrown around. 100HP/Cyl is not all that much for a bearing at 6K RPM.

Bingo, we have a winner.   :D :D except for the bearing wear in a clearanced engine, because of just that, it is clearanced and will come out of spec sooner.

Just the same for pistons, they require different clearances for forged, cast , hyperutectic, application, and maker.

Harley Davidson air cooled big twins have a .001 piston clearance (stock cast), however running on fuel, or setting up for really hot tempetures require more. I use Venolia forged pistons and I run .006 clearance for the hot desert summers.

let me get some time to sit down and cover all aspects of this. it will probably be a small novel and take a day to read thru my spelling mistakes and grammar errors but you will get my point. That being said lets take a minute to slow down and digest all of this info so far provided and my response will ocme in time.

I was mainly pointing out that if it is a stock bearing sized, stock clearanced, stock capped engine being pushed to 1000HP, even with aftermarket rods and pistons, the bearings are going to be eaten up in a hurry due to crank deflection under load, mainly the result of too little clearance for the amount of deflection present. If they also happen to be stock bearings (eeek!) the wear is going to increase at an even faster than normal rate due to the material.

LOL, I hear you... I think it would just be easier to have a country-wide telecon w/diagrams for everyone rather than typing it out. You bring the paper, I'll bring the markers......... someone else get the ruler please.

I agree with all of ya'll to a point, but have yet to be shown a 1000hp engine with 50k + miles and virtually no bearing wear, wifey, my bearing needs lubed:D

This is true- but also keep in mind how few of the "Viper Builders" actually build their own engines. If you go to most of them, dont expect much more than a cookie-cutter engine. As far as the guy in the north, I think I know who you mean... but there are more...

Not here at PSI we will take every once of care and each build will be one off and customer direct. Meaning each motor will be built accordingly. nothing we do is cookie cutter.

We just got done with a heads, cam, intake package on a viper car that is making 620hp and 646tq all motor, pump gas and streetable as the day it drove off the truck at dodge. this is also wheel hp numbers and SAE.

Yep that is correct:D :D :D  ;) So is everything else.:(

I dont even know of your company, so dont take what I said as being directed towards you. I deal almost exclusively with the Viper market, who also handles quite a large percentage of the Ram SRT builds due to the engine- obviously.

620/646 are some nice numbers for an N/A package.

I wasn't I was just wanting to be clear on our part for the sake of our customers. One thing we regard is exclusetivity(sp) and for that reason we take great pride in each and every product/project.

thanks for the props we believe it is acceptable. I relative thinking 600+ N/A is very impressive for a street car....the motor is also impressive.

We will doing these more and more as my truck is next on the chopping block for the heads, cam, intake package. This is only a temporary fix as we have twin 88's in the works as well. But that will come after the tear down of the engine for the neccessary upgrades. and again this is my daily driver so i will need to purchase yet another means of transportation. For some strange reason my alternate means of transportation seem to turn into a project that gets deeper and deeper.....uuuugggghhhhhhhh!!!!!

I hear you there! I just picked up a Jeep SRT-8 for my daily driver, and it is taking ALL of my will power not to rip this thing apart and enter another market! I have to keep telling myself "You arent going to have anything to drive, dumbass- dont even think about it!" hahaha

I guess I'll have to take the back way in and just buy a 6.1 Hemi engine itself sometime soon...
