Had the truck on a rolling road today was more to check fueling than power,
All ran well water temp got upto maybe 210/215.

The Paxton charge cooler spat out a little coolant though?
didn't make great power but I've read the Paxton's can be like that(plus is was quite warm)

But after the runs x3

Started ok, then went to pull away and in between about 1200-1500rpm massive miss would accelerate though it just didn't want to, so back to the shop good look over anything obvious, nothing.
Let the truck cool down a bit more and it's all back to normal.

I've read Paxton say to run standard spark plugs and leads, haven't pulled a plug yet by viper leads that I can see.

So your thoughts please, I'm guessing the electrical because they don't like the heat but what should I have a look at first plugs, ht leads, coil packs, lambda sensors failing?

Truck has full paxton s/c kit
Gibson hedders

Thanks,

Charlie

Yessir check plugs first! What was A/F ratio during pulls? What plugs?

They said A/f was good, rich with wot, which is what the Paxton ecu does?
Plugs I will check this weekend, any special tools I might need to remove them? Guessig the paxton charge cooler header tank has to come out to gain accesses?

Cheers,
Charlie

Hi,

I wouldnt trust anyone on A/F is good at WOT or not, if you dont have any possibility to read the data and have a proof.

Engines and rebuilt can be damn expensive and therefor make sure everything works perfectly before pushing it.

If you have a chance, go to a tuning shop with a good reputation and let them check your data. Chris Jensen or Torrie @ unleashed from US can hook you up with the right tune, if your setup is incorrect.

All the best

Arne

Pull & check the plugs first. I'm not sure if you have to remove the inter cooler. Then do a compression & leak down test while the plugs are out. Especially if you find any spark plugs that are black, oily or have a closed gap. That way you know the engine is 100% good. The V10 does not have the best reputation with forced induction. Especially with a stock bottom end (piston & rods).
Once you are sure the problem is solved I would put it on a dyno. This way you guarantee that your mixtures correct.

The print outs are being sent over this afternoon. He said the fuelling was very good all over the rev range but when driven with wot it went rich, as I understand this is what the Paxton ecu does as it's not a particularly clever unit?

But as I've said it was went I went to go home that it started to hick up. After it had cooled down a little more it was back to normal.
I'll get the graphs up when I get them.

Charlie

The graphs would be great to see. If you don't have a wideband A/F gauge to monitor fueling at all times, you need one! I'm wondering if correct heat range plugs are installed.

Only a power map they have nothing else at the mo!

Well Paxton say to run a standard plug/leads? But yes I think the plugs have something to do with the misfire in between 1200-1800rpm.

Would a plug getting very hot have a fault that would then disappear when left to cool down a little? (Water temp still 200ish)

A wide band is next on the list Aem are the ones I should look at?

I though selling the skyline would be the last of little niggles, guess I was wrong!

Charlie.

Terrible graph even for a non Paxton truck! Still doesn't show A/F but it was all over the place regardless.

Haha though you might say that!
Could you show me what it should look like with a Paxton?
The trucks very new to me and it goes well as it is but to think there's more to get is insane!

I'll e mail paxton and see what there thoughts are?
Would love to find a decent tuner in the uk but have had no luck yet?
Any Brits on here with any info to a good tuner?

I can get you tuned via email if you get a wideband in her. I wouldn't run it at wot until then! Something isn't right for sure. Do you have an SCT? How was it tuned? By whom?

Wide band is orderd went with AEM. Ok I'll run her gently for a bit until I get this sorted.
No I don't have an Sct is that something you can supply with the tune? Rough cost shipped to the uk?

I've not a lot of history on the truck, I spoke to Ian Trapp who was the owner that had his machanic put the paxton on. I've had a good look over everything and I happy it's all been fitted as per the instruction book.
But tune wise I have no idea what's been done. What do Paxton supply with the kit to get you up and running?

I can't seem to send pm's do I need to upgrade my account somewhere?

ya need to get your post count up to 50, i believe, to PM folks

Update!
The charge cooler was not pumping so I've managed to sort that out which will defiantly keep things a little cooler.

Do all Paxton s/c kits use the split second ecu? If so which one?

The kit comes with the split second box, but your safest bet is to ditch that for an SCT and have it tuned that way.

I've looked at getting the sct but the tuner wants me to put the fule pump/injector/map sensors back to standard and it's $1700 including all the parts I'll need. And that is not a option right now. I only want to truck to run safe, not after massive power.

Are there any forum members with the split second ecu that could help? I just want to know which one I have and what I'll need to tune it?
I've spoken to probably near 15 specialist tuning shops over here (uk) and none have being able to help including a UK Paxton distributor who was so unhelpful he was verging on rude!

You should've kept the Skyline!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can supply you with an SCT and tunes. Really do need to ditch the split second controller. It won't cost anywhere near $1700. You will likely need a new map sensor. You need not change injectors.
You can email me at [email protected] with any questions bud.
