Safe Table Saw

It's $2800. Now is $2800 worth saving your fingers? Yes. But $2800??? I think that puts it out of most home wood shops.

And.... if the safety device ever activates, you have to replace quite a bit of the stuff. But... the cool part is... YOU WILL BE ABLE TO!!!:D;)

im betting there is 100s of ppl out there wishing that they had one of thses the last time they used the saw... and lost a hand or fingers

The technology is amazing. As was already mentioned - activation is a one time shot. There are some limitations.

Cutting green lumber or pressure treated lumber will likely cause a safety stop. The activation will ruin the blade. A good blade is easily 100 bucks or more. So the temptation to over ride the safety will be high in some cases. As has been demonstrated in industry - if you have tgo overide the safety for one thing, the likelyhood of over riding it all the time is increased. Just ask most US tablesaw owners where the blade guard is. Mine is on the floor in a corner. The reason is because of poor design. It will not work for non through cuts.

In short, I like the technology, but it still needs to be improved before it will garner mainstream approval. As a side note SAWSTOP tried to petittion the industry to require this device for all new saws. Of course it was patented and they own the license.

School systems will buy it.

Mikey could test it out with his 10 pounder :dontknow: . He would have plenty to spare .......... and just in case it didn't work, he likes blood.

My father is a victim to a old table saw... his fingers did not hit the blade, but he was cutting a large board and on his old saw the motor and belt were exposed... and his fingers got sucked under the belt, and through the pulley.. its was not a pretty sight.. but not as ugly as a amputation.

Average cost of an amputation: $45,000
Average lifetime cost of that amputation including meds, therapy, etc.: $400,000
Premiums doubling and tripling??: Ouch!

Keeping all your limbs in tact and avoiding all this mess: $2800...sounds phuckin priceless to me ;)

You could replace a LOT of brake stops and blades for $400,000!!

Good stuff Que!

I don't disagree, I was merely stating that at that price, most backyard carpentry shops will not be able to afford that protection.

Schools and businesses will benefit greatly with this technology.
