What kind of gains would I get with a SCT tune on a RC with minor bolt-ons? And does anyone else use 94 octane? I know it's running rich, so would 93 or 91 make the garble and popping go away or is that just from the setup I have? I got the LT Belangers, HF cats with Magnaflow exaust, and drop-in K&N air filter. Aft. Plugs, Coil and throttle body are coming soon. :) Should I go cams? I hear it's a big job DIY.

How can I tell if this truck had a tune done to it already? Any way of knowing by rpm/speed?

I've been hesitant on purchasing the SCT Tuner because I've read mixed feelings for gains on the RC, but maybe someone else can enlighten me on what I should do here, if at all, even worth doing.

I just got the SCT with 3 tunes from Torrie at Unleashed Tuning. I have the 94 octane tune loaded in the truck now, and i can say the gains are great. Very noticeable. Also the truck runs much cooler, as the tune turns the fan on early.

I did 457 with 91 tune, 470 with 93 tune. I was running Husky 94 Octane. Mine still pops you can have it taken out in the tune as I am told. Torrie did my tune air to fuel goes from 12.4-13.4
Mods in Sig line.
On the group buy I am happy I got it.
We were using the dyno dynamics dyno

Those are some nice numbers. If that is the case then my mind is made up! A couple questions then... can I buy a SCT Tuner with no tunes and then contact Torrie (roe?) for the tunes (pay)? It's the Xcal2? preconfig on tuner or specified by octane by user?

Fair price is around $500 correct?

I understand that the gains for a RC are not as great as for my QC. I got my tuner a while back and it really woke up my truck. I think that's the general concensus around here. Some improvement for the RC, big improvement for the QC. I can tell you that running 94 octane on a stock motor is a relative waste of money, it won't help that much as stock they are set up to run on 91. As far as I know, you won't really be able to tell if the truck is tuned unless you know the truck. The fan comes on early, it runs a little cooler. It shifts a little differently. Subtle stuff. Winds tighter....you might be able to tell if you punch it hard...if it rev limits at 5500 it ain't tuned, if it goes to 6K it's probably been tuned. On the QC the tune turns off the torque control so you can really feel the difference. You go from seriously burning the tires to lighting the tires but with a RC you can already do that.
You will have to plug in the tuner...it will save the stock tune and take a minute or two to do the new tune if it's not tuned. If it's been tuned, it will save the stock tune and switch immediately to the next tune - doesn't say "tuning" or "programming" when it's already tuned. That make any sense???
Do a search....there's tons of info on SCT and others. Best wishes

Yep, that's close but it comes with 3 tunes for the base price....low octane, mid, and high. If you go through Stinker (Tony) one of the primary vendors here and great guy, he and Torrie can cut you a little slack. Check with Tony at JTS Venom Performance, the service is superb and he and Torrie are just great...they'll have you tuned and turnin and burnin in no time. Just PM JTS Venom Performance.

Thanks for the words.

I've been taking bits of pieces from a lot of threads and eventually piecing them all together, but still wasn't satisfied until now. :)
