But with a TSB, no matter the year/mileage/owner number, the issue is fixed (usually without charge).
This was the case with several TSBs on my Durango.

Not true. If its an emission TSB its covered under federal emissions warranty 8yrs/80k. If you're a great customer we typically cover up to 4yrs/48k.

There was a TSB for the gas tank straps on my Durango. The original owner did nothing. I ran a check (courtesy of a link here) and found that one and several other outstanding TSBs on the Durango. I took it into my dealer...no charge for any of the TSB work.
They said to me that TSBs are different than warranty work (and thus my previous post(s)) and are honored by any dealer, no matter the mileage/owner/etc.
If it was just the dealer being nice, then my apologies.

If it had something to do with the gas tank on your Durango, it was probably done for safety and liability reasons. I had a 92 Jeep Cherokee Sport that had a recall on the front brake calipers. The work was done in 2000 and was covered under the recall. I'm pretty sure DC wont fix torn rubber weather stripping after the warranty is up.

I guess there's a difference between a Technical SAFETY Bulletin and a Technical SERVICE Bulletin.

If it's a safety bulletin or a recall then the dealership will do it to cover themselves.

I also had the same problem with my seal & got them replaced.

Now I'm trying to get my brake pads covered, but I don't think it's going to happen.

Sorry Robert. The letter I got about the gas tank straps from Dodge said "Technical Service Bulletin". I was just going by what they said.

umm i am not sure but i have heard that Technical service bulletin, TSB means not lifetime warrant. but a recall, i dont know sorry

tsb is a technical service bullitin. its to assist dealers with certain repair/diag procedures, notifications are not send to owners. Recall or customer satifaction notification is typically safety related and letters are sent out to owners to repairs. this is then letter Dodge sent on the fuel tank straps




SAFETY RECALL TO REPLACE YOUR VEHICLE’S FUEL TANK STRAPS AND INSPECT YOUR VEHICLE’S REAR BRAKE TUBE
Dear Durango Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the NationalTraffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

DaimlerChrysler Corporation has determined that two defects, which relate to motor vehicle safety, exist in some 1998 model year Dodge Durango trucks.

The problems are... The fuel tank straps on your Durango (identified on the enclosed form) may fatigue and separate. If this occurs, the fuel tank will loosen and could leak fuel. Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in an underbody fire.

In addition, the rear brake tube may contact an underbody crossmember. Prolonged brake tube contact may cause the tube to rub through and leak, resulting in a partial brake system loss and increased stopping distance. The increased stopping distance can cause an accident without warning.

What DaimlerChrysler and your dealer will do... DaimlerChrysler will repair your vehicle free of charge (parts and labor). To do this, your dealer will replace the front and rear fuel tank straps, inspect the rear brake tube and install a brake tube isolator. If the brake tube is damaged, your dealer will replace it. The work will take about ½ hour to complete. Brake tube replacement, if necessary, will require another hour. However, additional time may be necessary depending on how dealer appointments are scheduled and processed.
What you must do to ensure your safety... Simply contact your dealer right away to schedule a service appointment. Ask the dealer to hold the parts for your vehicle or to order them before your appointment.
Bring the enclosed Owner Notification Form with you to your dealer. It identifies the required service to the dealer.
