Anyone elses front seat brackets, the ones bolted to the floor, rusting?

Mine are and I was going to remove the front seat, sand the bracket down and repaint it.

However, I was looking through the service manual and is saying not to reuse the bolts going into the floor or the nuts holding the seats to the brackets. Anyone know a legitimate reason as to why this is???

Just curious.

i have seen a lot of them do... they are not coated and the moisture creates a surface rust

Liability, every time a bolt is torqued it is stretched a little bit. Our tower crews never re-use a bolt, if one is removed it is replaced with a new one. By putting that statement in the manual it just covers Dodge's butt. I don't think you will have a problem with seat bolts though of they are re-used.

I have reused a lot of seat bolts and many other bolts.

I am sure Alberta is correct that it is just a liability issue.

I would use a bit of blue LockTite on the threads.

Yeah I was going to blue LocTit them anyway, just was wondering about the using new bolts and nuts part. Seemed kinda silly.

A lot of nuts and bolts on aircraft are not supposed to be reused, but I've done it:eek: You're seats will be fine.

Thanks, just looking for some peace of mind. The rusty brackets looke like sheit!!!:D

Mine did the same thing. The coating that is put on the seat bracket is just that. Never painted. What I did was taped the floor around the bracket and used a rust inhibitor and they cleaned right up. I then used a light oil and treated the metal and dried it good and they have been fine since. Good luck
