My truck has about 13.6K miles on the clock. Last Friday on my way home, the truck started to make a high pitched sqealing sound, coming from the engine bay. The sound varied with engine RPM and it was not a constant noise (last a few seconds, stop, then start again). Just as I got home it stopped completely. Since last Friday, no noise. Today I took the truck for an oil change and asked the delaeer to look into what may have caused the noise. My dealer told me the serpentine belt needed to be replaced (under warranty) and all other belt driven accessories including the belt tensioner were fine. At 13.6K miles showing, I thought it was odd for a belt replacement need. Anybody experience a similar problem, e.g. premature serpentine belt failure?

its not the belt its the idler pulley..

I'll talk with the Viper tech but if the idler pulley is the same as the tensioner I'll have them check this again.

Mileage is not the only thing that lead to wear. Here in Phx our heat tends to destroy battery's and anything rubber. My idler and belt needed replacing at the same time.

I had the same noise not too long ago. Except mine came from the tensioner. But while I was at it I replaced my idler pulley and belt as well. All rumble and no chirps is music to my ears now.
