So I was just traveling northbound on I-45 in rainy weather when I spot a maroon GT Stang driving fast in front of me. I wasn’t paying him no neverminds, just continuing on my course passing him and not caring too much about the wet freeway. I could see that he was trying to catch up and switched lanes at the same time. I didn't know what happened at the time but the next thing I knew he was facing the wrong direction and headed to the median wall real fast. Then, POW, sparks flew and so did the whole front nose of his ride. This flipped him back around in the right direction and he finally came to a stop. Needless to say his headlights were definitely not on. So there he sat in the dark and no one was stopping to help and his dark car quickly becoming smaller in my mirror. I was kind’a feeling guilty so I quickly got off the freeway and went back to where he was. Yup, just as I thought, he was still there alone. I pulled up behind him on the left shoulder and stood in the rain next to his car waiting for him to finish telling someone where he didn't know he was. I helped him to figure out where (I’m STILL soaked) and made sure he stayed calm. I was really concerned if he was hurt or not. Thank goodness he was just dazed, confused and quite a bit shook up. He was well enough to decline an ambulance ride, but his car needed more than crutches for sure. I just stayed with him until the local heat showed up. It was all a flashback from my days in law enforcement.

While I was driving away I could only think about the VTCOA family members and hoping all of you were safe somewhere tonight and not dealing with what this guy had to. And the lesson to be learned? Well, it’s just as the title suggests…. SLOW DOWN IN THE RAIN AND DON’T TRY SWITCHING LANES WHILE HITTING A PUDDLE AT 70+ mph!!!! Peace on earth folks…

Always a good reason to keep a good eye on the treadwear of your tires. Especially on an open bed truck. We need all the grip we can get. I noticed mine are getting a little worn. Time to nut up and buy some. With tires not being cheap, I could see someone skimping on it.

That would be me. I have been driving around with some worn tires and a screw in one of the tires. The really sad part is I have 4 almost like new ones stacked in the garage. Hoping to get them on prior to my 2K mile road trip coming up.

Thanks for looking out bro, with the way my rears are worn, I will prob not drive in the rain, if so it will b slower than slow. Great thing about FL winters is that it wont rain until next summer!

Good post Anthony, good job on helping the guy out. I saw several wrecks yesterday in the downpours on the way back from Ark, almost bought it myself twice from hydroplaning...best to slow when it's raining hard...

no kidding on that one.... when i was commuting to dallas from austin, it would rain like crazy......i would just pull off onto the side road and wait it out...you cant go slow enought with the skies we have on! good post on safety, sometimes we get complacent.

I learned quickly how skittish this truck is on wet streets - not just in the rain. Even a few hours after a rain, when the streets are looking dry, I'm careful. Got sideways one day on "dry" road after a rain. Better safe than sorry... Whenever I feel a litle foolish (almost daily) I imagine my truck with a smashed fender - that slows me down.
