Do you guys take your spare off to race? I didn't think it would make that much difference but I could be wrong. I know some strip everything down to the ounce. Lemme hear your opinions, please.

I've thought about it but figured having that weight over the rear end will definitely help traction, 100%. It's a catch 22. Removing it may result in a higher trap speed, leave it and you may net a better ET due to greater traction. MOST of these trucks (not all) have a hard time getting traction so I left mine in. Be good without it on the street from a roll but from a standstill it'll help having it. Well, that's my 2c. I'd also like to hear what others think. :) I removed weight from the front engine bay and would recommend doing the same, better weight distribution and transfer. ;)

same thinkin here.

i would move/remove as much as ya can from the nose, get closer to the 50/50 weight distrabution as ya can.

now back in the "old" days, we would fill the spare with water to help traction. did see a better 60' time. with a good reaction time, would usually equal a win on the far end:burnout: :burnout: :burnout:

It weighs 81 pounds, pull it. Will make no difference in traction. just extra weight.

then ya should be able to remove the bed & spare & get into the 5 sec range:dontknow: :dontknow: :argh: :dontknow: :dontknow:

No offence Jack lol but that's a pretty big statement to throw out there? :hmmmm: :dontknow: Any weight over the rear in most if not all vehicles helps traction especially 81 pounds on an otherwise bantamweight rear end. Being that our trucks main enemy is traction and getting power to the ground, I would have thought removing 81lbs on the arse end is suicidal. But, I'm keen to see if it DOES help as 81lbs is a fair amount! Add in items like water bottles, speakers, air ducts etc a decent weight loss can be had. :) Good topic, I like.

I don't know Carl, Jack is the man at drag racing so I would listen to him....But i do understand the logic to keeping weight in the rear and removing from the front....I think with pair of dr's, caltracs and good technique you'll be able to hook good no matter what unless your running big boost!

What did you remove off the front of your by the way Carl?

Not a hell of lot (around 50lbs) when I customized my engine bay, plenty more to do if wanted but it's a truck, not a car so I'm not going to chop it up and lose the goodies like sub, black storage box, water bottles, air ducts etc to get better 1/4 mile times and drop the weight of a 2.3 tonne vehicle. I wouldn't have got a truck if I were worried about weight and track times LOL  but, 81lbs of unused crap in the back is something of interest so I'm keen to see what everyone thinks on this subject. :)

I have the best 60' time on the forum, my spare is in the garage. Did not seem to hurt:D :D :burnout: :burnout:

And thats why i won't doubt you! I got better times with my spare removed out the hemi also!

I'd listen to Jack, I run without a spare (ever) and nobody could get me off the line at pcb(on streets) with caltracs. Once u learn how to launch your truck efficiently, you'll see that 81lbs hurts not helps.

Every 100lbs u can remove from you vehicle should net you 1/10th in the 1/4 mile...

Weight removal almost always helps...Trainman is a good example....it takes more than lightning fast shifting to get a bolt on only modded 10 into the low 12s............My spare has been sitting in the basement for almost 3 yrs....I have done 60' times of 1.93 with street tires and a 1.72 with DAs on a poorly prepped track.....

That is good enough for me, off that 81lb bastard comes!!! Might look at the other odds and ends to hit another 100lbs off. :)

Jack said it, I believe it, that settles it!

Mine has been in the garage for years.

But I don't race so...take it for whatever its worth.

What do you guys carry or do in case of a flat? I've always carried 2 large tire cans of "Fix-a-Flat" to limp me home.
Not sure how good they are in the real world but on paper them seem "OK", well, better than nothing!
