The number of teeth should be stamped on the ring and the pinion, just use simple division to fiqure your ratio, or just count them then divide:D

So there is no need to have anything pressed in by a press?

I wouldn't think so, many diffs are the same type setup even a 60 Chevy PU.

Don't make me get out the Book:p :p

Another way to tell what gears you have, and you don't have to take the cover off for this either. Is to spin one wheel one full turn while having someone else count the how many times the driveshaft goes around. If it goes around 4 and half times plus a little its a 4:56.:D :D

Or you could just look at the tag on the cover:D then call your dealer if you can't fiqure it out:D :D :D

It just seems odd that the shop sent out the carrier to press in the side gears (I think that is what they said). When I first talked to them they looked it up on the computer to make sure they did not need any special tools and then they told me they would have to send it out of town to do some of the work.

Sounds to me like they just told you this to buy themselves some time. YOu need to take a ride down to there shop.

I asked them to call me when they got everything out to see if there was any damage and they did call me. No damage. Then I went down the next day to get an idea of when I could expect it to be done. It was still tore apart on their lift. So I don't doubt they sent something off. And why would the shop leave my truck on their lift for a week and taking up space when they could have something else in their making money for them.

They have a small shop so space is valuable to them. My dad gave me a reference to them. He works for an asphalt company and that is where they send there trucks to if their shop is too busy. And he has never heard of any complaints from them.

If they need a press to put it together, then they probably would need the same press for taking it apart. Have you seen your truck for few days? It might be outside now.

It was still inside the shop today.

The only parts that should need a press would be the carrier bearings on the side of the carrier.

Thats good. Go ask the shop owner to show you what has to be pressed. Make sure to take Wifeys print outs with you. They may have messed up something and had to order it. You deserve the truth.

To me that just shows how to change out the axles. If I read that right. From what I saw at the shop it kinda looked like the side or drive gears were pressed in the carrier:dontknow: They had all the guts out of the pumpkin.

I am not saying your wrong by no means. I just don't know the answer:D

Don't think they ordered anything extra. I gave them the parts and they never called me to say I needed more stuff. And they did call me today asking me if I wanted anything special for fluid. Sythetic etc.

I just might have to drive down to the shop here in a little bit:D
