Spider and Side gears?

The only parts that should need a press would be the carrier bearings on the side of the carrier.
That sounds familar, but not sure if that is what they said:dontknow: And is that necessary to do if you are just changing out spider gears? I do remember seeing bearings on the side of the carrier.

Something smells fishy here. How many hours did they quote you to do this?
No hours just a final price of about $400. Which I would expect for my area and from what I have read. Anywhere from $250 - $450 on the high side to do it.

Hold on , more to come, seems you do have to remove the carrier to remove the drive gears, this is a new one:( :(

Well they took everything out. If I wanted to change gear ratio's it wouldn't have taken any extra work from them. Being out in the middle of nowhere I don't have many options on pricing.

Shouldn't be necessary. I've had Ford 9s, GM 10& 12 bolts apart. I've never torn into a Dana. Shouldn't be any different. Maybe they seen some bearing wear. At any rate they should be letting you know exactly what they intend on doing to your vehicle.

Yeah when they were researching it, they said that is weird and that is different. For example they were talking about something and their book told them it is better to just get a new assembled carrier. I think they were talking about the clutch packs:dontknow:

I remember when Maui/srt-10 replaced his gears Unitrax just sent him a complete carrier assembly instead of swaping parts.

From what I understand our Dana's are kind of bastardized from everything else out there. And they did tell me before I dropped the truck off they would have to send it out of town.

dana is one of the most common rearends on the planet
Yeah but the ones in our truck have some different crap then all the other dana's. For example if I remeber right the diff cover is different from a 60 to our trucks and won't fit. I think Bone was having some issues with getting a Mag Tech cover. And I remember somebody calling a dana rep and they didn't not even know that they had a dana super 60! Of course customer support people are probably just reading from a book:D

Yeah I posted before I saw yours:eek:

But I at least trust your book:D . So it looks like to me these guys took out the carrier bearings and did not have to. I also noticed they separated the ring gear from the carrier too and did not have to.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see anywhere here where a press is needed.
You are correct :p :D ;) Just that special little tool
