Has anyone replaced there starter and if so did you use oem or after market brand. Thanks for your info. Those with headers are you covering your starter with a heat sheild?

I have had no starter issues with my headers. I have not priced a started out, but I think I would stick with OEM.

Not being a smartass, but are you positive of the starter? What about loose connections, battery condition, starter relays, etc?
Just don't think I've ever heard of a starter going bad:dontknow:
Not that it's impossible, but seems to be a strong point of our engines actually :)
You can get lifetime warranty ones from Autozone and other stores I imagine though. They can also ensure its bad as well :)
Good luck and let us know what you find sir. :burnout:

yep. header heat killed mine.

shopped around & found an aftermarket unit a bit cheaper, seemed like it was $240 includin $20 core, kept the old one for spare. went with that AND installed heat wrap.

also found durin the trouble shootin that my clutch switch return springs had broken & stacked up & not always lettin the contacts touch. best i found for the switch was $60

i asked Tony if he had a heat sheild or offered hot rodded starters for our trucks. he said that he had started a starter heat sheild, but got but on the back burner & he was to take one of his spares & have it checked out to see if they could be "updated" a bit for extra performance, lol.

might want to get in touch with him & see if he got anything done with either

No prob bro, I just hate seeing y'all spend unnecessary money if its not needed. I'm kinda like Geico, haha!
Sure sounds like a starter then. Crazy how its fine cold though:dontknow:
Of course it is electrical so they do funny stuff when they're tired, lol

I had the same problem with my L when I put the headers on. I didn't put the shield back on....didn't think it was a big deal till about a 6 months later. The big red cable coming from battery was fried! Only would start once it cooled down. As soon as it got even a little warm...no start till I let it cool again. Wasn't the starter though...it was JUST the cable. If you had a bad armature in your starter...then it would have intermitent starting whether cold or hot.
