I have always wondered about this. If we are not able to get traction, How can lower gearing be the fix? Let us all know what you find out. Thanks.

yes and no to a point...you still have to take in powerband, weight, tire size and suspension set up...

funny is everbody here is trying to dead hook on stock on lowered front suspension.

That is why he suggested 3.55's is because of the size of our tires and the limited size of slicks. If trainman or arrested red put 3.55's the way they can drive, N/A,I'd bet easy 11.5.

So what do the stock Vipers come with?
That I am not sure 3.53 or higher. He put a 3.07 in his. I forgot what times he was getting but he said he was still breaking loose with 3.07's.

Yes, That is what i am trying to say, I do not see how the lower gears are better for our application , Unless you have some big ass slicks on.

hmmmm i've also thought about going to a lower gear like a 3:73 i know it'll help up top for sure... it will also keep you out of over drive so you can pull harder and longer in 3rd an 4th gear.. i'll be watching this thread closely........

devildog how much RWHP /TQ are you putting down?

Actually with the 3.55s Dr's is all the is needed with caltracs etc and be able to launch at over 2000 rpms. With what he told me with the slicks like fat jack I will be able to launch at 5000 rpms. One thing I did learn is My shit doesnt start to drop of untill 5400rpms is that good, but he said it really didnt drop off that much then.(A/F)

Roy can vouch about the Knowledge this guy has. I will get the numbers next weekend and post it. I am not that good at explaining shit but in first gear your ratio is what 7:1 or 8:1 to one and then 2nd and so on. It is like how your not supposed to tow in 6th gear beacuse the ratio is 1:1. Make sense?

He still has it but I think Hp wise I was just under 600 which is what I expected because it is only a generic tune for the s/c. I have another session next sat and were gonna put the 10lb on after and compare the 2. I think His puter was messed up thats(Saved only the A/f ratios and was dumpin the rest of the info) why I am going back next weekend. But at 5500 I was still running alittle rich at 11.7 boost was 6.6psi.

hmm i onlt make 527 on motor but on spray im in the high 7's "can't get it to hook on the dyno"....but i have noticed that most of the highway races i do i hve to get into 5th gear..... would be nice to be able to stay in 4th

i'm pretty sure it's gonna slow you down, because i tried something similar. My truck has the 4.10's and when i ran my 12.34pass i was on a 26" tall tire giving me an effective gear ratio of 4.97. So i went up to a 32" tall tire, the M&H nostialga slicks(same thing Fatjack has, he bought them from me) and the truck feel on it's face HARD my best pass with the 32" tires(effective ratio of 4.10) was a 12.47 and i lost 2.5-3.0mph. Trainman's gear ratio is VERY close to mine with his 4.56's and the 29.3" tall M&H DR's(his is an effective ratio of 4.92) your truck might react differentlly than ours since yours is blown though

trainman has the hp he just needs consistent sub 1.7 60fts...

I see where you are going with this though..I see it happen on fast chevelles all the time..

Guy has SBC with 5.13 gears and runs 10 flat per say....

then he throws in hopped up BBC with the same gears and now has promblem blowing the tires of the line in 1st and 2nd gear..Drops down from the 5.13 to a 4.11 and presto the car hooks good, wheels in the air and 1.3 60ft...

But like i said these truck need to have the suspension set up for the drag ( i think thats the intention of this thread ) to get the front to pull up high in the air and pivot on the rear tires as the weight transfers to get it to hook..

That is a major factor for me:eek: what about 3.73. Thats maybe the point I should of stressed:eek: but the Higher you go in HP the lower you want to go.
