After "seeing the light" with my new found excitement about having my truck retuned by someone who specializes in its art I remember having a blown motor sitting in my garage.

It got me thinking about the extra set of heads sitting on it doing nothing. My thinking was that I could send the heads to Joe of Performance by Joe and get them worked on so when I have the truck retuned possibly in a month or two and the lowering kit installed they'd be already done and waiting for me. He mentioned that it wouldnt take much to get another solid 30-40 horses and would depend on my budget. I dont have a whole lot of extra to spend (I really dont have any but y'all know how that goes) but since he's doing the tune and the heads arent doing anything on the other motor anyway maybe I should get something fairly simple done to them.

I'd love to get the Strykers (Strikers) but thats not gonna happen. Since I already have another set of stock heads the only additional cost would be the porting and labor to install them and whatever else has to be done.

So, what kind of performance increase on a blower motor can be had from these heads? I'd also be looking at the performance increase per dollar to try and justify to myself the need to get it done or simply get the VEC and a tune as well as the lowering kit.

forced induction, hense Turbos, or superchargers, like the Roe or the Paxton
Thank you...

I am seriously considering supercharging but I am not finding much info on what "kits" include... What are folks doing to support the new fuel requirements of a blower? And are any of the SC kits 50 state emissions legal?

Sorry, that question is kind of off topic... I will start a new thread and ask...

Tom is your truck getting closer to being done. I have been wondering how it was going.

Bill.

I would port the heads. The cost would be minimal vs the return you'll get. Get someone to do it that has a tracer and cnc equipment. www.indyheads.com did the set of mmmmtorque's ride and it gained about 25 at the rear wheels. All they did was clean the bowls up, left the stock valves in it. If you go to crazy you'll likely out do your valvetrain. Keep that in mind.

Ya, I started thinking that if I get too crazy the rest of the motor which is stock (other than the pistons) may not support it. And we all know that a blown motor or major malfunction is not a good thing.

When mmmmmtorque talked to Indy at the Rockingham Mopar day, they talked about how doing more would have meant a rocker upgrade. Granted you could probably get away without, but why chance it? Indy likely has the program saved from doing his heads. They might do it cheap, just a thought. If he gained 25, I'd think you'd gain 40

Not really. 75% of the Paxton kit went missing in shipping from Indiana. Now I'm going through that BS and trying to get a claim in the the shipping company. The whole thing sucks. Top it all off I spent 3 days in the ICU last week with internal bleeding. Bad month....

Next week I'll be back to my cheery self ;)

Personally I would just match the ports and use a sanding burr to smooth the passages. Unless the shop you are considering has spent a lot of time porting/polishing Viper heads and has either a N/C program or templates to use you may be wasting your money.

Porting and polishing of heads is a black art so to speak. The only way to do it is to measure a stock head, and then start expermenting, and measuring the results. This takes a lot of time to do by the way and generally you will go through a few heads finding out what is best. Remember, bigger is not necessarilly better.

Dave's talking about using Joe Donovan. He is one of the best Viper builders in the country and knows precisely how to port Viper heads. ;)

And since he's doing mine, (lol) I think its a great plan Dave. :p
