Hey Guys....goin to the 8th this spring but I can't seem to get the feather right with the Pirellis....I either light em or lift too much. I know the answer is "don't run the Pirellis" but I just want to run it through the lights a few times for fun...don't want to track it out.

So, I've been farting around on different surfaces and have no idea what the track is like that I'll be on...guess I could scout but I just ain't gonna be doin that much of it. Got Torries mid range tune, Caltracs (which helped a lot) and a drop in K&N. Plan on switching to Cooper Zeon's because I can afford them and can't afford drag radials.

Anybody got a few tips on racing with street tires and the best way to get them to hook up better, if any. On new asphalt it ain't too bad, I don't have to lift that much. Not sure about our trucks and rubber to rubber off the line. Anyway, any info appreciated, just doin a burnout on the line ain't gonna cut it and like I said feather and/or pump are too variable....thanks in advance.

Thanks guys, thought about that but had no idea how much or what that might do to these tire sidewalls....back in the day we never ran our street tires at the track, not if you were in the least serious. Oh, the weekend grudge matchers mostly ran street tires but they were just fartin around like I'm gonna be doin.

Appreciate the tip....18 psi? Woulda never thought I could get away with it!

Definitely lower the PSI. santeen gave me great tips at the track. When staging hold the brake and rev up around 1200 maybe less then on green let off the brake and gradually apply gas...don't just mash it or you will never get traction on street tires. I only raced with my street tires and results were good with what I mentioned above.

:D :D Yeah, figured out it's a feather job...appreciate it!!!!
Thanks kickinass....these little tips are what I was hoping for. Thanks Santeen!!!

If you do go with the Cooper's it's a good choice for the money. I had them on my QC and loved them. They are great for wet weather and dry weather traction. It's a little softer compound than the Pirellis.
