If I don't install the tstat will I see a HUGE loss of power when she's pushing 202 degrees?

It almost feels like no power gain.

I'd expect it do to detonation and the timing retarding.............

Couldn't tell ya. But I can tell you it would drive me bat crazy hearing the fan on high all the time:D .

It only does that when you do the stage 2 and no tstat.

Autozone gave me the wrong stat.

SO I bought one off rockauto.com for 19$ Man I love that place.

Should get here right as I leave for Mexico again!

According to Dan Lesser at Viper Specialty Performance (New York)...

Quote:

We run the stock 185's exclusively. Anything lower and you run the chance of "freezing" the adaptive updates in the PCM, they will not work correctly below 180F. Having the adaptives freeze will cause incorrect fuel trims when conditions change, as the PCM will not adapt to the new conditions, thinking the engine is not warmed up yet.

PS- This is inherent in the PCM- it cannot be changed. END QUOTE.

PSS- The 170 won't prevent the engine from reaching 200+. Your engine IS over the temperatures he is talking about anyway...

So with a stage 2 pcm you want to change to 180 instead of 172?

This very interesting,so they are saying we shouldn't run any lower then a 180t-stat! Does that mean it will be leaning out or making the motor run fat?either way is not good! hmmmm..!:dontknow:

Agreed, I installed the stage 2 but no t stat. granted I havent been driving it much in winter. But I havent noticed the fan running all the time. Is the t stat needed with a stage 2?

Jay - when I put my stage 2 in it took about 100 miles before I started noticing more power gains. There was some immedialty but after about 100 miles more started coming on. after a 1000 miles it really took off, now with 15K miles on my truck and over 5000 on the stage 2, headers, catless, magnaflow the upper rpm power is much more noticable above stock, low end torque is strong.
side note, in phoenix during winter I ran about 180* water temp, now that the summer is coming I will be at 200* with my 170 Tstat.

PSS...we need a kit that removes about 1000 pounds from the truck!
