taking flight

ok, yesterday was flight 3, and the last i will be doing with that instructor.

for the third flight we climbed higher then i have ever been before, close to 7,000ft. we actually went above the clouds, WOW never had done that before.
cant really put into words how awesome it was to be up there, in the calm air, completely calm. i was looking at the tops of clouds, and dodging them.

we did a power off stall then i repeated it, then he did a power on stall, i was too nervous to try that. so i, at his request, did another power off stall.

some background on this guy, he flew F100's whatever that is, during nam.
so he is a great flier, and a great instructor.

when we were ready to come down i could not find an opening in the clouds, so he took over. he goes do you see an opening? i jokingly replied, yeah right there at 9'oclock if we dip to 80degres we can shoot it. he goes "here we go" WOW completely sideways, left bank 90d then cut right 90, pulled up and got what i estimate was 3G's, did another series of banks turns and another 3G's! what a wake up. i was not even scarred anymore, i was having a blast!
then he called ATC after giving me flight back. they advised him that it was blowing to 28K cross wind. so he took controls back for the landing.

what a great flight.

however, he sat me down and we talked about some schooling, and book work. and if i don't get into the books, and do more lessons more often he would not sign off on my solo, or my tests. so basically he said he loved to teach me, but he wants me to follow the book method of learning as well.

so that will probably be the last flight with the jet pilot, thou i may ask him for one more flight, he is a GREAT teacher. would like to do the power on stall with him in the co-pilots seat. i really feel i can trust him.

will call him next week to see if he wants to do just one more.

Keep it up.
A power on stall is nothing to worry about. The important thing is using your rudder so that you don't fall off to one side. Watch the ball on the Turn coordinator. After the first one, its really no big deal. Its actually alot of fun.
I solo'd a month ago. Since then I have not been up.
The guy who got me into flying lost his wife in a helicopter accident last month. Since my wife and her were close, I stopped for a bit.
This week since I am on vacation, I am going to go up again.

well the wing dip is what worried me. i am trying to overcome the reaction of right wing dip - turn wheel right.
it comes from driving cars so long, i feel like i am in a skid and turning into it is my first reaction. i did not trust myself to not do that. in fact i was worried about going inverted. what do they charge an hour down there for a 172 with instructor, wet? think i pay 219 for an hour flight, and an hour ground, the instructor is $60, so wet with i pay 159.

Hmmmm...I want to take some flying lessons. I love that crazy crap!!! I love flying but sitting in the middle seat is nothing like steering from the pilot or copilot seat!!! Especially at 200' over the ocean.... :D

Don't worry about going inverted, its not gonna happen. If you get to that point, the instructor will stop you. I havent ever felt like I was gonna do a loop.
Down here the plane I fly is $117 wet per hour, and $75 per hour for instructor. There are cheaper planes, but I like the AC, Traffic, and GPS.

Sorry, it is a 172SP. It gets really hot down here, the AC isn't great, but it helps

I still need the books, i'm alittle more than half way done.

ok, found a new instructor. he is very good as well.
pitch power trim.
some very good advice.
he was also the first person to tell me the rudders are attached to the nose wheel. the whole time i could not taxi because i was trying to steer with the brakes. WOW. also said it was pointless to go up on a day that is not calm for the first 15 hours, not much can be learnt. first flight was 18 mph, third was 28mph.

so this flight was basically a light review of everything but stalls. did many turns. did not do the takeoff or landing. odd as my first flight was doing the takeoff. learning the rudders better.

another piece of great advice was to "step on the ball" ball goes right, step on the right rudder ect. i was doing better on trim this time too.

i didn't think i learnt anything new, however after replaying the flight in my head i noticed i had learnt how to enhance my flight abilties.

he said next flight we will do turns on a point, and s turns.

should be in two weeks.

was a bit cheaper at the new school, the old school charged me for exactly 1 hour ground instruction, where this one charged me for exactly what time he spent.

i asked him for a opinion on my flying. he said i was doing great for only 4 hours. guess it must be the cross winds that gave me practice? or i am just good, lol.

Sounds like your moving right along.
