The recent (closed) poll, although found to be in questionable taste did (at least in my mind) have some redeeming value.
I have great respect for the mods and admins and their power over life and death here. And as I said before, the issue of banning itself carries a profound set of precedents that strike a dissonant chord on the VTCOA. But, short of the poll on banning itself, that thread was not without intrinsic value- even if only to make the point that someone's conduct was unacceptable.
As is the case with any congregation, while a standard of decorum may not always be etched in stone, a line in the sand is certainly drawn. And when it's crossed, someone has to speak up..... In turn, everyone should have the opportunity to honestly discuss it, too....
That's the real value of that thread, in my opinion.... It seems that it was meaningful to others as well as evidence by the participation (that) it drew.... most (but not all) of which was constructive and to the point.... It reminded me of how much fun it used to be here.... Perhaps the comparison lends credence to a statement that Mikey made the other day about how fkn boring this place has become.... Excuse me, but I must agree.
I thought that thread was a kick in the ass and (for the greater part) it was righteous, too... Not because it proffered the idea that someone could be "voted out'a here", but that it cleared the air about some shit that needed very badly to be brought to the fore. Specifically, that a member was out'a fkn line......
Granted, Patrick had to shut it down. It's his responsibility... But, thankfully he let it run its course and allowed us all to reap the benefits of the encounter.... That was pretty cool... For a brief moment, this place was really fun again.... It reminded me of the time that Mike Brady (Nowwhat) called me a "racist asshole" (or whatever it was)... For those of you who missed it, that was awesome... Mike and I became good buds after that.....
This kind'a shit serves to sharpen all of us and eventually to make this forum better than it was before....
