Sounds correct...the engine temp needs to reach 226 before the fan kicks on....so I guess the 170, in theory, is supposed to keep the colloant cooler as long as air is coming thru!Chuck B said:corroborates what I said....engine that produces enough heat to exceed current thermo temp will not run cooler with a 170F. You must increase air flow, capacity etc. Stock setup the fans are variable with water temp. They are not on/off.
