Thinking about getting a new Sony TV

Roy we looked and looked at TVs before Christmas...put the Sony next to a comparable Samsung.......the Sony picture looks good till they are next to each other...look at the Samsung 650 or 750 models.....I was going to buy a Sony but ended up with the Samsung 650 46"....

Not much...I have a pretty strong system centered around a Sony STRDA4400ES 7.1 Channel AV Receiver with surround sound...but I know little about the system...and am still trying to figure out how to get the Blue Ray to work...

That sounds like a great idea! Do the Samsung's come in a 55 inch?

Never mind...I'll do the research. But thanks!

I think IZ has that model Roy.:dontknow:

samsung would be 52, i believe...

personally, i have sony, and i've been very happy with it, and i knew there was a better system out there when i bought it, so for once, i actually "shopped" and ended up with the sony only because it was the better deal, not the better tv.

samsung makes great tv's even moreso now with their "progressive image software" or something like that...it almost "reads" the next motion that an object will do and "preps" itself so that the images seem clearer...they almost give me a headache it's so clear.

check your image contrast ratio and your dynamic contrast ratios.

it's all in the ability to process the information as fast/clearly as possible, so as not to distort the image (which can increase greatly the larger the tv)

personally, i'd buy a comparable tv (samsung, sharp aquos, i hear, are great) and keep the 2 grand extra to blow on some bowers and wilkins speakers

whatever you get make sure you get one with the 120mhz processor. makes blue ray watching a whole new experience...

roy,
i went with this for well under half the price of the sony & is every bit as good side by side & my LCD is half the thickness:

personally, almost anything lcd in 1080p will be awesome (plasma's are likely on the way out soon & have screen burn-in issues - not used for gaming systems), just couldn't see all the extra cash for 3 more inches of screen. :dontknow:

if you're bent on 55", then:

it has an LED backlight, it's biggest difference over most & still cheaper than the sony.:)

good place for forum info on all brands:

Samsung does make great TV's..... But, that Pioneer Plasma is the bees-knees. When I worked at Penske Logistics, I headed up the (now defunct, I believe) home delivery and installation department of Pioneer's Plasma program. They are, by (very) far, the best TV you can buy. The picture will blow you away. And, don't let anyone give you any SHIT about Plasmas not lasting as long as a LCD. The picture on a LCD still cannot compare to even a cheap plasma. My parents have 7 LCD TV's in their house..... The crown jewel is a Sony Bravia 52" 1080p that they paid (IIRC) $4000 for new. I think my little ($1200) Samsung 42" plasma kicks it's ass in picture quality and contrast. :dontknow:

Buy a Pioneer Plasma.... You'll be glad you did.

All of this input is really helpful!

I have a small Samsung LCD on my desk (19 inch) and it is super! I have an Aquos (32 inch) in the master bedroom and it is also really wonderful...I have a Sony (40 inch) in the family room. The plan is to up grade all by putting a 50 or 55 inch in the family room and moving the older ones into each room...and the small Samsung will end up on the wall in the garage!

Damn that Pioneer has killer reviews! This is not going to be an easy choice...

You guys rock...and some of you really know what your are talking about...

i got the 46 in and the 42 in brazia and they are nice, also have a 70 in sony.

I have an LG 60" plasma 1080 hangin out on my wall, pic is awesome and I got a hell of a good price on it last year...Sony is nice but not worth the extra $ IMO, I compared the Samy, sony and LG and they all looked damn near the same pic quality wise..Just a heads up if you plan on hangin it from your wall, the hardware they give you for the bracket to put the tv on the wall is a joke.. I had to go get 1/2" lags, pre drill the plate the tv hangs from and finish it up with angle iron for the lags to bolt to, the plasma's are heavy as hell when you get above 50" being the whole back side of the tv is a steel sheet, good luck with your purchase:D

I used to work at CC, and I will only buy Samsung's. Used to be a Sony owner but they just don't seem to be up to par with the Samsung pictures. I was always told, for the money LG are the best. Money not considered by a Samsung or Pioneer Elite (major money) JMO

I agree with the Samsung guys. I bought an 850 last summer and it's amazing. Less than 2 inches thick and incredible picture. Got about $1200 off on Amazon (brand new) and free white glove shipping.
