I am very sorry I did not see this post sooner. My heart goes out to you in this time of need and I hope your father pulls through this with no complications. I had major issues in my own family recently and it was one of the hardest things to deal with but thanks to everyones support on the forums it helped me get through it.

If there is anything I can do please let me know.

Thanks again everybody for the the wonderful thoughts and prayers! They really do help!

A little update:

I talked to my dad last night and he is doing well! He was sitting up in a chair, and they were getting ready to move him out of CCU (Critical Care Unit) into a regular room.

He was in no pain, and said that overall he felt better than he has in a couple of days. (Typical of patients that have had blockage for a while, and then get stents placed!)

They are probably going to send him home today on Aspirin and Plavix.

Turns out that he was feeling a "Slight" pressure in his chest during his daily walks on his treadmill, and was already scheduled for a check up with his Dr. but bumped the appt up to Monday because of the pressure in his chest. They did a normal work-up with an EKG and everything was fine. But, he says that when they came in with the results of the blood work, they came scrubbed up and immediately began prepping him for a Femoral Catheter.
What they found was that the Left Ventricle was 100% blocked along with one other, a third Artery was 95% blocked!! That's when the told him that if he had waited much longer he would have come in though one of two doors; ER or morgue.
They did Angioplasty on all of his heart arteries and placed Stents in two of them.
They did more testing to make sure that the arteries in his neck were clear to make sure he wouldn't have a stroke, and said that was fine.

So, all-in-all he got very lucky! He swears that if it weren't for the fact that he is a Vegetarian this would have happened 20 years ago. I am not so sure. If it's in you, it's in you. And it's in him, and probably me too. His dad died of heart attack at 51, and three of his four brothers had heart attacks before they were 60. He may have delayed it a bit, but I think it was inevitable. Think I will just start taking Aspirin now.

Thanks again for the thoughts and prayers!

Great news, Scott! Make sure he takes care of himself, and I agree, if I were you with that kind of family history, I'd probably schedule an appointment with a cardiologist and see what preventitive measures are available.

Great news. :) :dancing:

My doctor has been on my case to take Aspirin for the last couple years. Guess I better start doing it.

Don't wait!

One thing that he mentioned that I think happens a LOT, is that men are often embarrassed or scared, and shrug off chest pain as gas or heart burn. He said that he almost didn't go, thinking it was just gas. He stressed that that was how slight the pressure was that he felt. He never had the shooting pains in his left arm, or the crushing chest pain. None of the "traditional" heart attack signals. Just a slight uncomfortable pressure.

Don't ignore the warning signs!! Go to the Dr. right away!

Take your Aspirin Silver! You owe it to yourself to take care of you! If the Dr. wants you to take it, DO IT!!

They may call what they do practice, but they have a lot of it!!
