A little update:
I talked to my dad last night and he is doing well! He was sitting up in a chair, and they were getting ready to move him out of CCU (Critical Care Unit) into a regular room.
He was in no pain, and said that overall he felt better than he has in a couple of days. (Typical of patients that have had blockage for a while, and then get stents placed!)
They are probably going to send him home today on Aspirin and Plavix.
Turns out that he was feeling a "Slight" pressure in his chest during his daily walks on his treadmill, and was already scheduled for a check up with his Dr. but bumped the appt up to Monday because of the pressure in his chest. They did a normal work-up with an EKG and everything was fine. But, he says that when they came in with the results of the blood work, they came scrubbed up and immediately began prepping him for a Femoral Catheter.
What they found was that the Left Ventricle was 100% blocked along with one other, a third Artery was 95% blocked!! That's when the told him that if he had waited much longer he would have come in though one of two doors; ER or morgue.
They did Angioplasty on all of his heart arteries and placed Stents in two of them.
They did more testing to make sure that the arteries in his neck were clear to make sure he wouldn't have a stroke, and said that was fine.
So, all-in-all he got very lucky! He swears that if it weren't for the fact that he is a Vegetarian this would have happened 20 years ago. I am not so sure. If it's in you, it's in you. And it's in him, and probably me too. His dad died of heart attack at 51, and three of his four brothers had heart attacks before they were 60. He may have delayed it a bit, but I think it was inevitable. Think I will just start taking Aspirin now.
Thanks again for the thoughts and prayers!
Scott

My doctor has been on my case to take Aspirin for the last couple years. Guess I better start doing it.
