I keep my SRT10 on the right side of my two car garage, however, with another large pickup taking space on the other side, I need to make sure I am as CLOSE as possible to the right side of the garage when I pull in.

Generally, I fold in the passenger side mirror and hold my breath as I try to get as close as possible to the side of the garage door opening. Once inside, I pull forward but also have to watch out for the area where the chimney comes into the garage area. It sticks out from the wall about the same distance as the outside opening.

I have a ball hanging from the ceiling that touches the windshield once I am in far enough, however, I haven't found a good way to keep it as close as possible to the wall on the passenger side.

Anyways, does anyone have any good ideas on how I can make it "a perfect fit" each time without having to worry about scratching the side of my truck as I enter the garage? Thanks!

Buy some of them Foam Straws you use in swimming pools and mount them to the wall....Or, put one of them big round Mirrors up in your garage so you can see how close you actually are.:dontknow:

I feel for ya. I have to do the same thing and have a black scuff mark on my garage wall from cutting it too close. No damage to the mirror tho. Practise is the only way I got the hang of it. I memorized visual "landmarks" in critical spots. I'll post up a pic of how close it is, you guys will not believe your eyes.

Good luck,
Jeff

I was also going to say that a mirror mounted into the far right corner of the garage should give you a good look down the side of the truck. would be very helpful, especially since you fold the mirror on the truck in.

Use the string and ball trick on the side as well. If the ball is moving, you are to close.

LOL, that or build a bigger garage? I have the same problem when I load it in the trailer, with the 24s that are wider than stock there is about a 1/2" on either side of the wheel and the inner fender wells of the trailer, scary close. Add to that the ramp is smooth polished aluminum so if it gets a tiny bit wet the truck wants to spin the tires and kick out, I did just pick up some 3M grip tape to slove that problem. The mirror sounds like a good idea, I know when I first pull into the trailer I'm doing the "Ace Ventura" out the window :dontknow:

I always have to roll my driver window down (even in the damn rain) to fold in the driver mirror before entering or exiting the garage. With my 98 Dodge 4x4 I had to do the same thing year after year until finally the darn rivers side mirror got worn from the constant folding and unfolding. Eventually the mirror would shift from the rushing wind while driving on the freeway. It would just aggrivate me, more than receiving an incorrect order from the drive through window, or seeing an SRT-10 without a wing

Wait! we were discussing garage space right? LOL Silly me, I went off on a tangent.

Yeah, once you practice enough you will get it down perfect. I smply fold in the mirror and turn on my head lamps because the reflection looks JUSt a certain way when the SRT is parked in the LEFT side of the garage. Then, I squeeze my ass out of the truck and crab walk down the along side until I get to the rear of the truck. I must admit I HAVE tapped the right side garage opening with the passenger side mirror a couple times but nothing to make a big deal about. I've grown used to kicking my own ass each time I do it.:) Now please excuse me a moment....966....

I have about 10" in front and 10" in back in my garage. Sides...probably about 14". Enough to open the door just before it gets to the first detent. I call it a garden shed, but the builders called it a garage. With Rachel's Jaguar and my truck, you can only get through the garage by walking sideways. It sucks, but that's how it is for now. Next house: 11-car garage. :D

Like the others say: Practice.
I'm still a little freaked out at how visually short the nose is.

The Blue Angels call this "flying paint". :)

Mine doesn't fit, so quit yer complaining.:p

Besides the above suggestions, all I can suggest is to find the part of your truck that will contact the wall first if you are too far over, and put some padding on that part of the wall.

It might be somewhat of an eyesore, but it may save a scar.

You might think about bolting a 3'x3" angle iron about 20' long to the garage floor and use that as a guide for your tires. Just put your tire up aginst it and follow it in.

I am lucky to have plenty of bay space <G> but I know what you mean on the nose it took me a bit to get it down as you really cant see it .What made it easy was I was parking in the bay in front of the paint booth and it's glass and gloss so I would flip on my fogs and could judge how far apart the reflection and the truck were .

Just have to start this by saying...I have a four car garage (ohh, I think I got wood saying that...) and I still have issues with where the truck gets parked...so I have three of these:

http://www.griotsgarage.com/search.jsp?searchtext=36940&search.x=15&search.y=8

They operate using the light in the garage door opener as solar-power for the flashing laser light. I position the light so it comes to a specific place on my dash, and that gets me to the same spot in the bay every time...

Not the greatest gadget, but effective in assuring consistent positioning...

Another source for a similar item that looks even better for the same price:

I thought this problem was unique to me. I have one of those long mirrors mounted/leaning against the back wall just right...... so as I pull in I can watch the mirror to make sure I am not gonna hit my fender, door handle etc....and yes I fold my drivers mirror in as well. It sucks having a small garage but its better than leaving the beast in the driveway out in the sun!!!!

Damn, that would suck to have a narrow garage again.

My last house was small like that and I hated it. So when I built my own house a few years back and I made my 3 car garage big enough to put 4 cars in easy.

I also have about 10 feet in front of the cars too. :p Can't imagine not having the extra space now.

I think the ample garage space is a psychological overcompensation for living out of a ruck sack for too long...

Mount a curb finder on the passenger mirror! You would be stylin also.
