Alright I have never been confused for a mechanic, so please forgive the novise question, just dont want to hurt my truck.

I have not had the chance yet to "safely" top out my truck yet. I took my old 05 qc up to 151mph. the other day i took my 06 6speed up to about 130mph in fifth gear. I had to let off from oncoming traffic. I noticed if i were to take it to 150+ I would have proly had to hit 6th.

My buddies Z28 even said in his manual to not go in high speeds or aggressive acceleration in sixth gear. it was for cruzing and the weakest of all the gears.

Seeing as how 6th was proly put on these trucks for gas mileage (just a guess) is 6th a strong enough gear to go full bore with?

For the record i would guess yes, but just want to ask to make sure and i dont blow out my tranny.

WOT? (???)

Yeah yeah i can tell when i hut sixth under normal driving conditions it drops the RPMs quite a bit which leads me to believe it is just there for crusing and might be on the weak side

Wide Open Throttle, gonna get your top MPH in 5th gear. naturally aspirated. (Miles Per Hour)

The data for the 4.11 is straight out of Car and Driver. I extrapolated the speeds for the other gear ratios from that data. I also dropped the Transmission Gear Ratio and MPH/1000 rpm from the other data sheets as it does not contribute to the data that most owners are interested in.

Transmission 6-speed manual
Final-drive ratio 4.11:1, limited slip
Gear Ratio Mph/1000 rpm Max test speed
I - 2.66 - 8.3 - 50 mph (6000 rpm)
II - 1.78 - 12.4 - 74 mph (6000 rpm)
III - 1.30 - 17.0 - 102 mph (6000 rpm)
IV - 1.00 - 22.1 - 133 mph (6000 rpm)
V - 0.74 - 29.8 - 153 mph (5100 rpm)
VI - 0.50 - 44.2 - 153 mph (3500 rpm)

Okay, some quick conversions for 4.56 gears.
I - 44.5 mph @ 6000rpm
II - 65.9 mph @ 6000rpm
III - 90.8 mph @ 6000rpm
IV - 118.4 mph @ 6000rpm
V - 153 mph = 5726rpm (160.3 mph @ 6000rpm)
VI - 153 mph = 3930rpm (6000rpm in sixth? To damn fast)

For 4.88's
I - 41.4 @ 6000rpm
II - 61.3 @ 6000rpm
III - 84.4 @ 6000rpm
IV - 110.1 @ 6000rpm
V - 149.1 @ 6000rpm
VI - 220.2 @ 6000rpm

For 5.13's
I - 38.9 @ 6000rpm
II - 57.7 @ 6000rpm
III - 79.5 @ 6000rpm
IV - 103.6 @ 6000rpm
V - 140.3 @ 6000rpm
VI - 207.2 @ 6000rpm

For 5.38's
I - 36.5 @ 6000rpm
II - 54.1 @ 6000rpm
III - 74.5 @ 6000rpm
IV - 97.1 @ 6000rpm
V - 131.5 @ 6000rpm
VI - 194.2 @ 6000rpm

Does anybody else get a vibration in the shifter in 5th gear at fairly high speeds??

my truck was as smooth as sitin on the couch at home at 130mph in 5th. all stock tranny and components

My tranny has been rebuilt - upgraded syncros, bronze shift tabs, new 1st and new 5th gear... if there wasn't many miles put on yet would that cause any vibration? and what about under acceleration? no vibration at all?

When i had my 05 auto i hit 151mph and it was not at redline but damn near. It was a nice flat road but she just didnot have any more left in her.
I only had a mag cat-back with 2 catdelete, CAI, and a flashed PCM. So another under different circumstances could go faster, mine just ran out of balls, and it took a while for the last 10-20mph to get up there.

I think they are supposed to top at 155 stock if i am not mistaken, mine sure didnt:dontknow:

Oh wait a minute.... Dodge proff Cena says top speed of 148mph. I satnd corrected

Well maybe that is just his "custom" one

6th gear at 145 shifter looks like it is gonna fly off LOL...

Keep her in 5th if your gonna top it out!
