I am new to this truck idea. I constantly read about no traction? Spinning tires in all lower gears while accelerating hard.
I had an 02 GTS and you could get on that hard and the tires would not even chirp, the car would just launch.
Can you get enough traction to use the torque with the truck?
Possible new truck owner

Its based upom weight distribution and chassis setup.

Caltracs are known to help launching.

I have just recently gotten over 1000 miles on my truck so I decided to give it a "whirl"... I floored it in 2nd and wasn't able to break the tires loose... I ran it up to 5K and then shifted into ??? So where the heck is 3rd gear in these trucks, lol. Anyways, I decided to give it another romp in 2nd gear and just not try to shift too fast into 3rd and it still didn't break the tires loose. I am thinking that the 06s must have really low gears or something...

Hey Tom,
What do you have for a truck?

Hey Mike Welcome....

Traction for a relatively stock truck usually isn't a problem...add 75+ rwhp and you will want some Caltracs...$400.00.....get to 650+ rwhp and they become trucks with 650+ rwhp...several of us run slicks at the track....figure a high 1.6x 60' will be your best....anything over 600 rwhp on street tires and you have to watch yourself....but all in all they are a blast.....get one....

Tom....do you have a QC...?.....

Traction. When stock 4.10 gears my truck would sometimes spin em when floored in first but only a little. Shifting into second, would chirp em almost everytime. Now with 4.88 gears........floor it in first and the tires go up in smoke. Shift hard into second, burns rubber big time!! Chirps going into third.

Controling the power is whats fun. You cant just floor it everytime. Feel free to enter a drifting competition!!! LOL You definatly have the power with this truck!

Hey guys, Re-read Toms post....:D He has a RC!!

Clue: Shifted from second into ????...LOL...He missed third:D

Can't stomp it in first or second without going up in smoke...If I hit third too hard, it goes up in smoke...I love it!!!!

Brains provide the best traction, RC or QC.

QC guys have less transmission control and thus have more traction issues.

I've had minimal problems in my RC. Usually it's due to torrential rain, where even an Audi would have slipped a little.

(NOTE: I am a daily driver; not a 1320' guy.)

Thank You All,
What I get out of this is a stock truck = traction. Wow is there a big range in price for the same trucks.

Mike

Mike- Stock trucks can have traction issues too. It depends on how old the person is behind the wheel. LOL
I take that back: It depends on how MATURE the person is behind the wheel. Stinker is much older than I am, but I get better traction. :)

It took me almost 2 years to find the right truck for me. Keep shopping and I'm sure you can score a good deal.

I hate your comments Kevan...but can't think of a good argument...just too short on brains!:p :p :p

Okay, here's my age coming out, but what the hell.

I like having more power than the tires can handle. And just so you know, I F'ing hate traction control, slip control and all the other controls that you find on some performance vehicles now days. All that does is take drivers that do not have the ability to really drive and let's them get in trouble or in a worse case kill themselves or others.

Look at traction control in the F1 cars. You come out of a corner and floor it and the electronics take over and allow the car to accellerate as quickly as conditions allow. Traction control to me is the link between your senses and your right foot.

Oh hell, as long as I'm on a rant I may as well continue. ABS. I hate that too. People need to learn how to drive and part of that is modulating the brakes. Most drivers now days when presented with an emergency situation slam on their brakes, close their eyes and wait for the crunch.

This nation keeps giving drivers licenses to incompetent drivers and it's only getting worse.

Well as 1Fast has said. I'm a pissed off, grouchy old man, or something like that. :p :D

We're a nation of idiots. Everything has to be done for us so we don't get hurt. Otherwise Darwin would be correct and we can't have that. We need the government to protect us from everything. Eventually we'll be a society that makes no decisions.

My last business dealt with the average person. It was a mailorder business. You would be shocked how many people don't know the difference in a zip code and area code. Don't know where they live and tons of other things. It was sad really.

While it is an article about driving an F1 racing machine, there is an article in Motor Trend this month. The point made is that even in this very sophisticated piece of racing technology, even the slowest qualifying professional driver completed the circuit 35 seconds faster than the highly experienced test car driver.

There are drivers and then there are drivers...and ten notches above that are the real professionals...At the SRT experience in Atlanta, six or seven of us in Vipers, were following a professional driver (woman) who was in a "300" sedan. After four laps my wife heard her say over the radio "has anyone seen my Vipers?" She was at least a half lap ahead of us...all skill, not nearly as much hp and a lot more weight...

John, you deserve a Viper...great brakes, huge hp, light weight and all pushed around by the seat of the pants...

You are right Roy, I need to clarify my statements. F1 drivers are still without a doubt some of the finest drivers on the planet. With that said, there's still to many electronic driver aids in my opinion.

For that matter, I think they need to bring back the 4 cylinder Offy to Indy.;) :p :D

I do have to admit, that when I was younger and single I did wake up and not know what zip code I was in. Does that count? :dontknow: :D
