Want to find out if it is possible for the transmission to work normally if the forward band is supposedly completely worn. I only ask this cause I took my truck to a tranny shop a couple of months back because the tranny was holding the gears longer than usual and had take off and shifting problems. I noticed a grinding noise and feel coming from the tranny when I drove it. They dropped the pan and it had about 1/8 of an inch of material in the bottom. They checked the forward band and noticed excessive play and adjusted it all the way down and it still had play. They told me I was basically metal on metal. Well not to long after that I totally lost the flex plate and thanks to Tony replaced it and didn't hear or feel grinding anymore. The truck is shifting firm and tranny is working like a champ. How is this if the band is totally worn? Is it possible for it to work with a worn forward band?

I have same problem and was thinking about messing with it after the holidays. Good thread

After yesterday, that is the best driving vehicle that I've ever seen, with a worn out band. That shit grabs every gear nice and hard and no slipping at all.
