Sorry, my original post messed up and I dont know how to erase it. Anyway, I'm going to be changing the trans fluid in my 04 RC. Is it better to just drain and refill or actually flush and refill? How many qts of fluid would be required to fill back up with draining it compared to flushing it? Ive got a guy that I buy amsoil from and also wanted to know if anyone has had any good experience with amsoil trans fluid in our trucks or if anyone would recommend something better.

im assuming 4 quarts is if you just drained it correct? What would it take to fill it back up if flushed? Or is it not necessary to flush the manuals trans? Do we have to use ATF cause besides amsoil I was also looking at trying some royal purple syncromax MTF.

How many miles are on the truck? If the old fluid is not contaminated don't worry about flushing it. Dump & fill otherwise.
Just had Valvoline SynPower 75W90 gear oil installed in my truck. It shifts better than with the old royal purple equivalent that was in there. It's also quiet as a church mouse.

There is close to 50,000 miles on the truck now. I just wanted to get some fresh in there so I know where the maintenance is at and can keep up with it. Im sure with the manual trans you can drain more out anyway just by draining than what you can by just draining the auto trans so I will probably just do that. Man I didnt think you could get these T56 transmissions to be quiet. Ha

You'll have a little left over with 4qts. I've only used OEM as refill. 150K miles and shifts/works perfectly.

Go to your local Chrysler dealer. Get their new Viper tranny fluid.

Much better engagement than the ATF+4 and also WAYYY quieter than the ATF+4 fluid.

So you think the viper tranny fluid would be better than the RP Syncromax MTF? I have just heard some really excellent reviews about that stuff but I def want the best for my T56

Castrol Syntorq factory fill or Mobil1 ATF fluid. NOT ATF +4 stuff! Tremec recommends Mobil1 for the T56 instead of Castrol. The Castrol is similar and even smells of gear oil but too thick for smooth speed shifts, it is quieter though.
It's just over 3 quarts so obviously you'll need a 4th but won't use much of it.

Whatever the factory recommends, is what I am going to use 95% of the time. Chrysler offers a huge warranty on the Viper tranny....

So, that fluid has to be good stuff.

I flushed mine with Mobile1 for a few hundred miles then refilled with 4 qts of RedLine D4.

Im in the process of changing out my tranny fluid to but I just moved this past weekend. Im going with RP SyncroMesh. Im sure it will be better then whatever is in there now. I have a 05 RC that just rolled over to 71k.

Well I went to the dealership this afternoon and of course they had no clue and couldnt even pull it up on the computer. They kept telling me the only thing they had for an 04 SRT 10 was for an automatic transmission at which I proceeded to explain to them that in 04 all they put were the T56 manuals. Either way they weren't any help but they looked up specs for an 04 Viper car with the T56 and it said the spec for that was 75W85 gear oil. They wanted $25 a quart for the mopar stuff but didn't know if that was the right stuff for the trucks. Redline sells MT-85 75W85 GL-4 gear oil at $16 per quart. Would that be sufficient?

Then you are on the right track with your choice for using gear oil.
So do you think the redline product I mentioned in the above post would work fine in the trans? I just don't want to mess it up and want something thats gonna work really well. I still have yet to hear anyone comment on the royal purple syncromax
