I'm following my plan on mods to the "T". Today completed the next step. I had a TransGo shift kit installed when I had the 15,000 (actually 16,560 on the truck) mile fluid/filter and band adjustment done. There are 2 levels of increased shift firmness available in the kit. The only guy I trust to work on my transmission suggested the first level of increase so that's what I opted for. Shifts are noticeably firmer but not so much more than stock that they attract negative attention or are uncomfortable. The torque converter also locks in firmer. Not knowing what to expect, a positive surprise is that the shifts under light acceleration are at a higher mph now. One thing I'd adapted to in my truck but disliked was the very low mph 1-2 shift under light acceleration. It's noticeably higher now which for me improves driveability.
I asked the technician when I picked up my truck for his perpective on how often I get the fluid/filter changed. Considering how I drive my truck, and annual mileage at about 18,000, he suggested bringing it in about this time each year (just pre-cool weather/race season). He commented that the fluids seem to last much better than in the past but the friction modifiers and other additives in the fluid degrade over time, especially when driven hard. I'll follow his advice. When I take it in next year I may get the shift firmness increased to the next level.
Sending the above isn't with the intent of starting a debate. Just passing on my experience with the shift kit (positive so far), and intent on service frequency (this guy has been in the transmission business many years, has an impeccable reputation, has never steered me wrong, and is a racer).
After my first trip to the track this year I'll update my run times and mph in my signtaure to reflect added mods (add them too) since last cool weather and last trip to the track. They'll include M&H drag radials/light rear rims, JMB CAI, and TransGo shift kit.
