Hey guys im new to this forum and was hoping for some help here. I have a 03 dodge ram 5.9 that i recently ripped the motor out of and put what i was told was a 05 srt-10 engine and tranny in. Turns out that someone swapped the tranny in between the deal thinking nobody would find out....Well when i went to install drive shaft i realized the seal was HUUUUGE comepared to the srt-10 slip yoke i bought. the shaft spline is the same but the seal is huge so i pulled the seal out and headed to dodge thinkin i could just buy a different seal. came home and the seal fits around the yoke fine but the hole for the output housing is way to big....is there a bushing or something that i need to reduce the size of the output housing so the output seal will fit? pleeeease help me out here guys i just spent a lot of money getting this tranny completly rebuilt and we called dodge to see if they knew anything and sure enough they didnt lol. i even tried to buy a complete new output housing from dodge but what they showed me has the same huuuge hole for the 2500 cummins diesel seal

You probAbly need a custom driveshaft unless the slipyoke from the srt driveshaft fits the u-joint from the 03 ram

yea i bought a SRT slip yoke and u joint adaptor so drive shaft is good just need to know what i do about the diesel output housing. not sure if its the same as the SRT of what. cause the size of the output hole is HUUUGE

If you have a cable going down to the tranny for the throttle valve, then it is an SRT-10 tranny. If it has a throttle valve actuator on the side of the tranny, then it is the diesel tranny (see pic)

Could you just buy a diesel yoke?

Does the Diesel 48RE have the same bellhousing bolt pattern for bolting up to the viper motor????

I'm pretty sure both diesel and SRT yokes use 1410 joints. I know the SRT does. I do not believe there is a different tailshaft between the two 48REs.

i may have to do that but what im worried about is that the joint will be way to big then ill have to have a driveshaft modified and or made also

Thats good to know. Thanks a lot!! im gonna run down to a dealer this weekend and also a driveshaft shop so glad to know that SRT is a 1410 joint

The 48RE tranny has an adapter on it to fit the viper motor or the diesel motor. Only the adapter changes.

an adapter at the end of the tailhousing? Do you know the part number because dodge seems to be lost...You seem very knowledgeable about this tranny. PM ME and maybe we can have a little chat

Just an UPDATE: Figured out that the tailhousing i have is definitly the correct tailhousing and from what i think dodge sold me a slip yoke for the manual transmission / ordered a compete two-piece driveshaft w/ the automatic yoke last night on ebay for 135 + shipping so crossing my fingers this will work. After that the only that ill need to get the truck running is tranny cooler lines made + a tranny temp gauge and power sterring lines made

So i had my tranny rebuilt and less then 50 miles into the break-in it started slipping bad. Pulled tranny out and took back to the tranny shop. Turns out i had the wrong throttle cable to valve body so i wasnt getting strong line pressure and burnt all my forward clutches. Good thing for warranty work lol. Should have the truck back up and running this coming week with the RIGHT cable this time

so alllllll my tranny issues were due to a bad oil pump. burnt two sets of clutches before i figured it out lol. Put the tranny back in truck and this time before starting or doing anything i towed truck to my tranny guy so he could hook up his computer and stuff to my truck and we realized i had VERY low tranny line pressure. took the VB apart and that was fine we we replaced the pump gear and seal and now my PRESSURE is nice and high. Should finnally get the truck on the DYNO in the next few days

glad to see you got her figured out...iswear idont recall not one pic....ever! whats up with that?
