Truck is too loud

Yep, per the others' suggestions I would weld in some high-flow cats like Random techs or the Roe converters, or add a couple small bullet/resonator mufflers. That would be the quickest and easiest solution. You would lose power going back to the stock muffler, and I doubt if your headers are the problem.

I'm like you in that I don't like excessive noise. Rumble out the tailpipe is great, but roar and resonation in the cab are a nuisance. The surprising thing for me is that when I went from stock manifolds to B&B longtubes with the same high flow cats and cat-back, my truck actually got a bit quieter, just with a deeper tone. :burnout:

I've got news for you all. High flow cats will be just about as loud as not cats. You can see straight thru my high flow cats and my truck is LOUD.

Get the Magnaflow resonators or put the stock cats back in. And keep the headers. You will lose power going back to stock manifolds.;)

The threshold is about 78 MPH. Once you hit 80, you can barely have conversation in it. If I went with high flow cats, which ones would you recommend?

I would do a magnaflow cat, they flow well, and the plus is they will also take some of that rich smell at idle away too.

But now at full throttle the sound will be about the same.

but do this also, check all the mounts, make sure they are rubber mounted and not ridged, if the exhaust is too, ridged or firm and doesnt move,it will have a bad drone, as long as the exhaust will wiggle or have movement, iit want cause a droning sound.

look at Jegs also, they have a couple small mufflers, that look like cats, that you could put upstream like a cat and they should do good also

If you do go back to the stock manifolds, have them Jet-Hot coated.
I'll put $20 that you don't loose any HP vs. the headers.

Your delusional..................:elefant: .....:elefant: .....:elefant:

I will make that bet with you, but lets up the stakes a little........ :hmpf: .....:hmpf: .....:hmpf:

I agree...since when do equal length long tube headers not out perform cast iron stock manifolds. Just the talk of that is craziness :dontknow:

Back on Topic.........
What is a "too loud" super high performance vehicle, I mean you have full exhaust right? How could it be too loud...are you referring to a drone sound at highway speed. As someone mentioned, the quad cad revs so dang high at that speed it is probably a drone you are hearing. Change any factor of your exhaust and see if the tone changes..and becomes bearable.

I mean if you didn't want loud then why did you eliminate your cast headers, factory cats, and factory catback?

i have mopar long tube, catless mids and mopar catback and i drive my truck high in the rpm's. when i cruise down the road i run my rpm's between 2500 and 3000 so it should be loud.

good luck what ever you end up doing.

Up the stakes? Like what- a flamed caftan?

On supercharged engines? (as the original poster stated he has)
Don't take my word for it, just watch the video:

You can keep your money, Jack.
:D

No matter what you're running (S/C, TT, N20, N/A), your exhaust preference coming off the engine block (stock, headers, PVC pipe, etc.) should be JetHot coated. Ceramic is...okay, but only #2 for heat dissipation. The amount of heat that these aluminum blocks displace is astounding.
They didn't open the scoop in the hood just for looks. :)

As far as loud goes, I'm content with my Magnaflow CB with the stock midpipes.
Loud enough, but not unbearable.

Too loud  Try stuffing a sock in the tail pipe and let it idle in the garage for a 1/2 hour...Then get out of the cab and remove the sock :dontknow: :D

Hope this helps :dontknow: I am not really a tech dude....But I did stay at a Holiday Inn express once :D

First off Kevin you cant compare Nowwhats truck to anything anyone else has.

Nowwhat probably has over 100k invested in the small things that makes his truck unreal fast, such as the nitrous controller, probably over 10k there alone.

but guys if ya want to quieten these things down try these, jsut pull the exhaust apart, slide them in, or tack weld em in , and there ya go, quietness

Put the crack pipe down, i have not had my truck on any dyno, but from bikes to boats everything i own has a set of headers and all of them made more power after i installed headers in fact my boat motor which @ the time was a SC 540 BBC made almost 75 more hp with the headers. Besides NOS, headers are the single most hp you can gain from bolt on products.

Thing is you can see right through a Magnaflow straight-through muffler, too, but it still lowers the noise level and changes the sound quality. High flow cats usually have some of the same impact. Less noise and rasp. I wouldn't go back to the stock cats; they are very restrictive and that would be worse than losing the headers (which I don't recommend either).

A potatoe usually works too. Ask Al Gore:D

To gain optimal power I am going to personalize/customize my exhaust. One side will be a bassani header, stock mids, Magnafows. The other side will be stock manifold, catless mid, stock cat-back. I think that covers everyone's opinion and should give me optimal power and sound.:D

What type of horsepower loss would there be by installing the inserts or additional magnaflow mufflers Stinker suggested? Would having no play in your exhaust system cause excessive resonance. Professor if your out there, what did you do to correct this problem?
