Truck is too loud

To the original poster....take this for what it's worth......

If you spend money for high flow cats thinking your truck is going to run quieter, you are going to be severely disappointed. My truck rattles freakin windows 5 houses down while sitting in my garage. :p

Buy the resonators or put you stock cats back in. That's the only way it's going to run quiet.

2 cents.

What type of horsepower loss would there be by installing the inserts or additional magnaflow mufflers Stinker suggested? Would having no play in your exhaust system cause excessive resonance. Professor if your out there, what did you do to correct this problem?

The Prof has a magnaflow resonator installed. PM him for details. As far as loss..........probably minimal depending on how restrictive they are.

Burnt Rubber..........great post dude!!! LOL

I had the same setup and could not bear it, as I drive the truck all the time. Removed the magnaflow muffler and replaced the stock muffler, really quieted it down but it sounded like rice on steroids, no change on perceived performance. Then, while having the headers coated I replaced the stock manifolds and cat mids (back to stock config) and it is so nice and quiet, a real sleeper. Again, no difference in perceived performance.

When I get the headers put back in, I will have Larry Macedo install Random mufflers on the catless mids as an experiment to see if it makes the Magnaflow bearable.

well.. in my qc i have stock manyfolds, x metal catless mids and magnaflow...
it was loud and i like it....
in my rc i went w/ belanger headers and high flow cats and magnaflow...... it was loud but by that time my qc was louder.. than i found the hole in my magnaflow..... after i replaced.... my rc is now louder than my qc at same speeds w/ the right gear w/ the high flow cats....
and on idle or reving it up at the same rpms my rc is louder too.....:dontknow:
so make sure you don have a hole in the magnaflow.... i didn't notice mine until i pulled my trailer on the mountains... lol... we had to yell each other all the way for 6 hours inside the cab...

quad cabs are loud stock at 80 mph. RC's are quiet with headers and catless mids because they are 1000ish rpm lower at 80 mph.

Does anyone have any feedback on the Magnaflow resonated tips? I won't be putting my cats back on, just trying to make it bearable. I have a 5 hour trip in a couple of weeks I'm dreading.

I thought the same thing when I put mine on. So I asked Doug to put on some high flow cats. He said IMO he would put some resonators which should quite her down quite a bit. Still considering it....

I may as well jump into this.:D The MagnaFlow with stock cats was louder and deeper on my truck. When I went with catless mids it was just TOO LOUD.I love a good fairly loud exhaust, but the part that made me change was the drone/resonance in the cab.Made long trips a pain in the ...........ears.:D

I left the cats out ,but re-installed the stock muffler (look through it,it is straight-through !).As was stated earlier,it sounds like a ricer on steroids(kinda exotic).BUT,in the cab it is just as nice as stock.I can talk to passengers, talk on the phone and hear the stereo.BUT !......BE SURE TO HAVE AN "H" (cross-over) PIPE INSTALLED TO ELIMINATE THE CACKLING AND POPPING !!!!!! Otherwise this set-up will be as loud as the MagnaFlow, just higher pitched.

Anyone put an x-pipe in ahead of their magnaflow(I know the magnaflow has one internally) to further even out exhaust flow and hopefully reduce the gurgle and pop? I'm not real inclined to put that big water heater of a stock muffler back on. :p

thanks,

Oya i have had an x-pipe since we re-worked my exhaust, it does help with the drone makes the truck sound less to fast to furious, but its still pretty loud. My buddy found some slide in all stainless steel resonaters, ill order up some for 2 1/5 inch pipe and see what they look like when they get in if they look like they might work ill chime back in on this thread and let you guys know whats up.

most in cab noise comes from the vents at the reaar of the cab. they are plastic doors that allow air out but not in. a lot of sound comes in from there

don't know if anyone suggested this already, but what if you removed the carpet and put sound deadening material under it. not sure where most of the sound is coming from, ie. engine compartment, floor area, or rear of cab. but that i think might help some. obviously it will add weight to your truck though.

When i put my new system in we put stinger mate in all doors, the floor & the back of the cab, it helped a little while driving but not enough to worry about unless your doing a complete system!

After installing the Bassani headers, JMB catless mids and the Magnaflow cat back it is almost unbearable to drive at 80 MPH or above. Any suggestions on how to make it a little quieter? I saw that Magnaflow makes tips similar to the ones that come on their exhaust but have resonators built into them. Any suggestions?
I say roll up the windows and turn up the stereo :dontknow: :D :dontknow:

My entire cabin is lined with dynamat and it does a pretty food job of keeping most audible sounds out. It wont help too much with the deep resonation which is very low pitched. I have no cats and the magnaflow catback that's scary loud at times but inside its not bad at all. I also have the flaps in the back of the cabin dynamated over but dont recommend anyone do this. When I turn on the HVAC or close the doors, it causes my ears to pop from the increased pressure inside the cabin! Its a PITA and I've been meaning to cut some holes in the dynamat over the flap so the cabin isn't so airtight!
