Truckers are making a stand...

I hope it works, wish I was in on this one, but the last time they tried to go to the capital the state police turned them around before they got there:(

Should have got a pack of bikes to lead the convoy. The cops would be way too busy screwing with the bikers to bother with the truckers hehe.

I really wish them good luck with this. $5 diesel is right around the corner, which means $5 milk and bread isn't far behind.

Chevron, America's second-largest oil company, reported Friday that its annual profit jumped 9 percent from 2006, as crude oil prices reached their highest levels in 26 years. Sales topped $220.9 billion, up 5 percent from the year before.

Other companies have made even more. Exxon Mobil, the country's largest oil company, reported on Friday that its 2007 profit hit $40.6 billion, a 3 percent increase from 2006, while sales passed $404 billion. No American business has ever scored a higher profit.

Chevron also cut its forecast for the amount of oil and natural gas it expects to produce in 2008 - again, due in part to high prices. In many of the countries where Chevron operates, the local governments get to keep more of the oil produced when prices rise. The company now expects to produce about 2.65 million barrels of oil and natural gas per day, compared with the earlier projection of 2.8 million barrels per day.

It's a double-edged sword - the price goes up, but Chevron gets less oil ? ? ? :confused: :confused: :confused:

Some truckers simply can’t afford the fuel they would need to convoy to DC on Monday, but OOIDA member Michael “JB” Schaffner of Nocona, TX, said no trucker will be alienated if they can’t participate in the protest. “We aren’t going to force anyone to choose between their jobs and their families to join with us – some just can’t do it and that’s OK,” he said. “However, many of us are choosing to do this because of our families.”

Schaffner is one of the organizers of a national truck convoy and rally.

A second convoy, this one to New York City, has been planned for Thursday, May 1. They have received a permit to convoy there, but have not yet finalized all of the details as of press time.
 
I hope they get something done even if its something small,
i've got dump trucks & lay aspahlt & between the two its getting hard to make a living
fuel for my trucks are $4.70 a gal
blacktop is $65 a ton and rising

I live in the DC area and saw a ton of Semis parked on the off ramps on Sunday. They were getting ready for an all out assault and I support their cause. They recked havoc on our rush hour but to tell you the truth they should have. I honked my horn in support of them. These people are getting screwed and they need a venue to get their word out. Truckers are the backbone of our delivery system. If they go away what are we going to do:dontknow:

Some stupid politican will probably suggest importing Chinese workers, since everyting else is imported from China.

I support the truckers. I hope they cause one hell of a mess and bring this country to a hault. Then maybe something will be done to get the cost of diesel fuel, one of the cheapest fuels to refine so I understand and the most expensive to buy.
I tired of the crap and its about time the people of this country remember they we have the power to make a change. Lets Fire every imcumbant in congress and hire new ones. If he new ones dont want to help this country then will fire them. Come on, WE HAVE THE POWER. Lets stop being sheep.

There is no stopping the cycle.... Unfortunately, all of the people CAPABLE (by being put through PERIL and SERVITUDE) have long been dead. I'm afraid, as always though out the history of man, we have no large numbers to fight what is coming next..... :(
 
I wish we could get enough people together and overthrow the goverment. Tell the Government what they're going to do!!!!


I support the truckers 100% in this. I have a few friends that drive.
 
I wish them all the luck. Diesel fuel is ridiculously priced and we all are paying the price. I hope they do have a permit or their chances of getting to the Capital will probably be nill. Although their chances of screwing up traffic has a high probability of success. It doesn't take much for that to happen around here. I have lived in the DC metro area for many years and around here people take a keen interest in traffic and those that screw it up. We have every protestor and their brother converge on this town for one reason or another and I have seen too many times where they try to block a bridge or something and all it does is get the locals p'd off and nobody gives a crap about the protestor's cause. But, WTF, they'll get over it. Again, good luck to those truckers trying to do the right thing, including those not able to participate.

Edit: I thought they did or were doing this today -- good to see they made it the Capital.

Why not just organize a group holiday and spend nothing on fuel and if enough go on a holiday the freight might build up and people may get a bonus or truckers may be able to charge more. Also I find it hard to believe if enough go on a holiday that diesel will go up.

If that does not work truckers should look at different locations and specialized thing to haul. I know that the oil field guys get paid fairly good.

If none of this works the ones with high debt and or poor business sense will be forced out and allot that have planned well will have had the for sight to prepare will get out due to the fact that they can make more for less bull in some other job.

Once all of this happens the demand may go up as well as the prices :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:
It should follow the whole supply and demand
 
I'm all for capitalism, but we are being raped by the oil companies. They are reporting even bigger profits each quarter, shattering records for earnings by corporations. That is not right. Energy is essential to our national security on so many levels it staggers the mind. A penny raise at the pumps effects each and every one of us, mostly on things that we don't even see or realize.

It is time to put an end to the unbridled greed of those running these companies. First thing that needs to be done is to take away their tax credits, why in the hell are we subsidizing billionaires? I'm not sure how we can decide what a fair profit is, but it needs to be done. And if the government cannot do that, then it is time to replace each and every one of them, like Ken said.

We are headed for serious trouble, the current state of the economy is nothing compared to what it may soon be. And it isn't housing that is the primary culprit, it is energy. Just heard that the average household is spending over 10% of their income on fuel. Just so they can get to work if they are lucky enough to be working.
