1. I have this noise that is coming from somewhere on the exhaust. Maybe it is transferring from something else. I dont hear it in the engine bay but mostly from under the truck on the passenger side. It has gotten worse so I am thinking some heat shield may be loose. That is what it sounds like. I looked under the truck and it seems that everything is very tight and secure so I am confused. I have heard some heat shield rattle info from the exhaust manifolds have made a sound like this but not sure about the location of the sound.

When I get on the throttle a bit it increases and decreases on the way down. At idle, it kinda will rattle a bit, then stop and kinda roll in and out. I currently have magnaflow CB welded in place. Nothing is loose and that is my concern.

I will be installing my bassanis and JMB catless mids this weekend so I think I should be able to eliminate it by doing this. Just looking to see if anyone has had a similar problem.

2. I get an engine code every so often about injector #1. Then a puff of gray smoke and a misfire for a bit. She runs rough then clear up. I popped hood and noticed that my oil cap has a slight drip onto plug #1. It seems after I installed my CAI from JMB maybe I am getting some back pressure and blowing by the seal on the cap? The gasket looks okay but I am going to change it anyway. Anyone else have this problem and do you think I need to take to the dealer? Once I clean up the area, the truck runs perfect. In fact it is only once in a while that this problem arises. I can go months without a problem then it just starts, last a few minutes, wipe it down and gone...

Help me VTCOA-Kenobi, you're my only hope... ;)

It sounds like you answered your own questions!!,
The exhaust noise is probably broken a catalyst, the misfire sounds like what you found!!When you install the new exhaust, you won,t hear anything anyway:D

I had a similar issue sometime ago. I think I got BigRed460 to hear a slight hollow sounding rattle when I take off in 1st, like a metal heat shield was loose. I don't remember hearing it anymore after altering the exhaust a bit. I will have to listen for it when I drive her again. Right now the only strange noise I hear when taking off in 1st is a creeking sound, probably from worn bushings. I figured I would let someone else hear it. If it's real and I'm not crazy I will likely get it Stinkerized.

i'm thinkin'.....the buzz/rattle may be a loose baffle in the maganflow muff (there have been some issues)and change out the o-ring on your cap;)

AHA..HAHAAAA... Powersticks baby. Mine are waiting at the house to be installed. That Magnaflow has got to go, but I'm still keeping the Magnaflow tips on.

You can get them from Tony....

Not to jump on the "trash Magnaflow" band wagon, but, not too long ago, a thread was started identifying what looked like a chronic problem with the welds on the Magnaflows at the seams. Maybe another place to look for a leak.:dontknow:

Don't you have an 06 RC? My 06 RC started rattling as well and I couldn't figure it out. I put the truck on jackstands and ran the truck looking for the rattle. I found the rattle. It was coming from the rewelded hanger between the muffler and hanger weld that had broken free but looked good at first glance. Our 06's needed hangers rewelded to work and have had 2 occasions to date with the welds failing.

Yes, 06 RC... I did have the clips rewelded so I will check those. It almost sounds like a sheetmetal tin rattle. Very strange.

These truck are so tempermental. I rarely drive mine and the maintenence is amazing. Aside from the engine, it is really just a pickup truck.. Aren't they made to hold up better? Jeez... Maybe Mags has the right idea, keep it in the garage and you never even have to clean the wheels. But Mags still does. ;)

Scott, your ripping ou t the exhaust Sat? Are you taking the truck to the GTG? Those headers can be time consuming

yeah, I am the hired help!!!!!!

Scott maybe if you drove it more it would respond better. These truckss are like women, the more time you spend with them, the more they are willing to give back:D

Then he better start Fri!;) :p :D

i might work on them by myself for a while depending on what he is doing.
I can do the headrs myself in 5 hours, from jacking up the truck to lowering and starting it! I have done it 3 times now!

Did you throw a code too? I throw a bad injector on #1. I clean it, and it clears itself. How much was the breather from Roe?

I will buy lunch for Steve any day. He doesn't eat so a 6pk of red bull and he's good to go.

Joey drove his truck on Sunday? What was the occasion? Oh, it was the post winter / pre-pollen / sunny / no wind / low dewpoint / low humidity / stars aligning / perfect barometric pressure day out... And he cleaned the wheels... Bwahahahahaaha

Carlo, I will help as much as I can. I am assembling the tool line up now. I tried pulling wheels off on Sat but one of the lugs of so tight on there I couldnt budge it. I actually bent the tire iron. 4 out of 5 came loose but one just didnt want to go. I need a bar to put on it to loosen it and let it soak in wd-40 for a while.

I like the magnaflow sound. It is all welded so installing the mids may invlove a sawzall...If its a problem, I will forget the magnaflow and run straight pipes. Screw it.

hey scott, im gonna give you a call. i think I may try and get started on friday. i just want to make sure I get it done for your GTG. I may put out the mids. just hit all the bolts with some penetrant to make it easier.
to loosen the lug nut if you are using the tire iron take the jack handle and put it on the tire iron for added leverage.
